No. They wouldn't. Completely different circumstances this year. If only for the reason that they don't need a goalie right now. But there are more reasons. Just trust me. They won't do this. The best TOR can expect back is the NYR 2nd (55th OA), and even that is a stretch.

Saying "lol" doesn't help your case. CHI will be able to get to the floor just fine on their own, it isn't a concern. You need to pay for your cap dumps, and that isn't enough. Replace the 2nd with a 3rd and CHI considers it.

I don't care what the Leafs pay for it. But if it's CHI, TOR must be desperate to move his contract, and that is the price of desperation. If you can move him for less to another team, go for it.

Sure. Not the OTT 2nd, though. They'd be dumb to move that pick in such a deep draft. It's worth almost as much as a late 1st is. The difference between the two picks is not enough to pay for a $6M salary dump.

His cap hit is about $4.7M after OTT retained 25%, but his ACTUAL total salary for the 23-24 season is $8M. Retention is determind by a percentage. 25% of $8M is $2M that OTT is paying, which means CHI would be responsible for paying him $6M for the 23-24 season.

To eat $2M of his actual salary, TOR would have to retain 33% of his remaining deal. TOR would probably just be better off buying him out at that point, though.

i feel like a buy out is the worst of the ideas because then the leafs would have 3 mill dead cap next year when matthews and nylanders new contracts kick in id rather just suck up the 4.6 this year

With a buyout, his cap hit for 24-25 would be $2M and the cap should be jumping up to around $86.5m for that season. But yeah, that space would still be valuable.
