My Ideal trade to take on Yamamoto

Created by: Kyle_Davidson
Team: 2023-24 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 18, 2023
Published: Jun. 18, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
CHI
  1. Yamamoto, Kailer
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Depending on where Edmonton finishes in the standings during the 2023-2024 season + postseason the pick being conveyed to EDM from CHI could fall under these conditions.

A. If EDM finishes in the top 10 of the league (regular season) or finishes in the WCF or better then they are entitled to the latest 3rd round pick chicago has at the time of the draft.

B. If Edmonton does not finish top 10 or WCF+ then they are entitled to the middle draft pick that chicago has at the time of the draft assuming that they have multiple draft picks in that round.
EDM
  1. 2024 3rd round pick (OTT)
Additional Details:
I figure adding the condition makes sense because Yamamoto could probably be flipped for a 3rd with retention.

I think he would have to put up 30+ points before next years deadline to bring back a 3rd round pick.

With increased opportunity I could see it.

Are you referring to what Yamamoto can fetch to the Hawks at the TDL or the pick going back to EDM in 2024?

I'm referring to what @Kyle_Davidson suggested Yamamoto could be flipped for with retention.

Sorry. I should've clarified my statement a little more.

I don’t mind that proposal, take a shot on Yamamoto for one season to see if can be a piece moving forward while moving up a round/half round in next year’s draft.

Ideally if he is traded at the deadline for a late/mid third we are basically getting an outright 2nd for half a season.

I think the Oilers would say no. They've already said they won't add assets to move Yamamoto unless for a player of greater value.

The last thing I heard was that they would rather trade him than buy him out, not sure how they went from that to what you are saying but it’s their problem.

Oilers decline. They’ll be moving him to give him a fresh start for his career, they won’t need to add much. He has an extremely cheap buyout that makes it pointless to add any significant asset to move him. Plus he’s young enough that he could easily bounce back.

Both reported statements by the Oilers can be true at the same time. Obviously they'd rather trade him than buy him out, kinda goes without saying.

Viewing him as a trade piece for an upgrade vs viewing him as a buyout candidate seems mutually exclusive. That is unless you think whatever team you are getting an upgrade from will just take your “bad” contract for free. If I was an interested party for Yamamoto I would just wait till you bought him out instead of trading for him.

Yamamoto gets on a team that utilizes him properly he'll take off. I'm very disappointed with how the Oilers have used him. Not expected to be the board battle guy, or most defensively responsible forward, but kept being put in situations where he had to be. Kailer having injury trouble himself last season was put in a position where any decent player would try and cover for the terrible defensive play of Draisaitl, and the also but more gravely injured Kane for most of the season while getting next no power play easy time, but plenty of PK though. Ridiculous

Just a a little rant. Sorry, and thank you lol
