Do the Kings even contemplate Kempe for Dubois 1 for 1? Never mind Kempe plus all the rest? 40 goal scorer on a sweet contract for a few years yet or a disgruntled centre asking for too much money, I think the choice is easy.

Kings have a pile of young forwards waiting for a chance, some of which I’d say are better/further along than Robertson, so that trade does nothing for LA.

Hellebuyck, Dubois for 1st, Byfield and "at least 1, likely 2 of the top 6 wingers"

Cap works it's going up $5M next year plus it's expected that Kopitar will save them another $5M+ so that's $10M extra.

Wouldn't you think that means Arvidsson instead of Kempe? Assuming we're taking this rumor seriously, that's how I would interpret it. As a Jets fan I wouldn't dare suggest the trade you have here.

Haven’t seen PLD to LA gain any traction since Friedman initially suggested it, so I’m not sure who your insider is.

Why would the Kings trade Kempe for Dubois when Kempe has produced much better than Dubois? He’s the franchises first 40 goal scorer in quite some time, a number Dubois has yet to come near to. And the Kings don’t really need a centre given what they already have?

Sure Kopitar is coming off the books, but then where’s the money for his new contract? Kaliyev? Roy? Spence? Lizotte? A new backup if Copley leaves? I could go on, but Dubois makes a bigger mess of the Kings’ already tough cap situation.

Winnipeg takes that and runs. Leafs should not make that deal. Selling on Robertson low is just a bad idea.

Deal

Lots of teams having upcoming UFAs, so I really don't see what all the excitement is about PLD. Now I don't expect Jets to make big trades this summer as they still are trying to make the playoffs. But come TDL, they have Wheeler, Scheifele, Helleybucyk, Dillon and PLD on expiring contracts. PLD could traded as a short term rental by some team....maybe Montreal.
