1. Well, that's too much for DeBrincat

Change the 9th OA to 17th OA, remove a 2nd

2. Remove Laughton and Joseph + 2nd in the Philly trade. Ottawa needs better 2-way play from the forwards, not a few more points.

Hart + Konecny

for

2023 1st round pick (DET) : 9th OA
2024 1st round pick (OTT)
2023 2nd round pick (STL)

Watch Flyers fan say hell no! tears of joy

Your expectations are totally realistic!

You realize that Laughton scores about 10 more pts per 82 games while getting more minutes (including PP) and not being as good defensively or on the PK?

But one has 1st round pick value and the other is not worthy of a waiver claim? lol

I wouldn't even make the swap based on team's need (which is unfortunately not something Dorion understands). I would keep the much better skater for my 4th line and PK and fill my top-9 with the roster player player we get back for DeBrincat.

Laughton had 18 goals and 43 points last season in 78 games. Joseph has 15 goals and 48 points over his last 125 games. It's been a LONG time since Joseph had that career high season of 13 goals/26 points for Tampa in 18-19. Laughton is twice the player Joseph is.

Pure stats and advanced stats don't tell the same story though.

Since March 22nd 2022 (acquired by Ottawa) :

Scott Laughton 0.49 PPG (45 pts in 91 GP)
Mathieu Joseph 0.45 PPG (30pts in 67 GP)

The reason why Joseph has better numbers than before might be because he had a little bit more opportunity than he got in Tampa Bay... more minutes and sometimes with better players, which is still 3 mins less per game than Laughton (including PP). Also lesser quality linemates in general than Laughton

PK advanced stats : Joseph has been in the elite percentiles

Defensive side of the puck : again, advantage Joseph

Same contract, Joseph being 3 years younger.

But ok, "Laughton is twice the player Joseph is" lol
