Toronto gets some cap relief, shores up their defence, and gets back a guy who can fill Nylander’s spot in the top 6 while Carolina gets the scorer they need. However, I think Carolina would like to try to find a way to solve their scoring problem without impacting their defensive top 4. That’s the strength of their team, so I don’t think they want to mess with that before they have to. I know Pesce and Skjei are going into the last year of their contracts, but I don’t think they’re afraid to let them walk next summer if it gives them a better chance to win the cup in 2024.
