If San Jose doesnt pick Michkov at 4

Created by: patnaisnyquil
Team: 2023-24 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 20, 2023

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
1. With recent reports that Michkov could be pulling a Jagr, Washington likely being his prefered destination, I think its a trade that makes sense for both teams. Washington secures their future franchise player while we get a B, hometown prospect. I would draft one of Benson/Leonard/Reinbacher/Dvorsky with the 8th pick, depending on who is available.
2. Pretty much the same deal we see everywhere, Mesar and Kidney can be switched depending on who you prefer. The Calgary pick might become really good in two years.
3. Cap dump for Vancouver, not a crazy return but the cap space is the important thing, they can go after Pesce or whoever they like. Beau can become a fan favorite or be flipped at the TDL. I think his style of play fits the culture were trying to build.
4. I think this is fair value foe Durzi, whos gonna need to sign an extension. Edmunson is a reliable vet who could be the perfect partner for Brandt Clarke.
-Buyout Armia.
5. Slafkosvky starts the season in the AHL, bring him up once Hoffman and maybe Beau are traded.
6. Lapierre could step up as the 3c if (when) Monahan gets injured.
6. Farrell, Kidney and maybe Roy become expandable pieces that can be trade chips when we start competing.
-We still have 4,8M$ which allows us to go after a goalie or a cap dump for picks.

Oh nevermind re-read this.

It's a good payment to take on Edmundson.

After buying out OEL the Canucks aren't desparately trying to dump salary, but might consider Beauvillier and 2023 4th (Van) for Norlinder, Fairbrother and 2024 2nd (Avs)

Just to make sure... H.Lapierre has all the value from moving 5OA (Franchise player like you state) to 8OA
You must be Super High on him... I like him but we do have better prospect in our farm right now.

Beauv to shred salary in VAN ok

Hopefully PLD story would come to an end soon...

That's a lot for Durzi... wait with Edmundson... if Healthy & playing well at TDL= Late 1st/early 2nd.
Just Fla 1st + Ylonen should be enough for him.

Probably would be better to buyout Edmondson or bury him in the minors instead of paying that much for a team to take him.

I do agree that its a lot for Durzi, but at the same time I feel like the cap space we get allows us to get a cap dump elsewhere that can get us a better pick than Edmunson, who I dont think will get us anything close to a 1st/2nd. Hes always injured anyway so he might not even be able to be traded at the TDL. Young solid RHDs that can move the puck are rare in this league and we should go after him if hes available, he had a great year last season.

I think that moving down 3 spots for Lapierre is worth it if Hughes isnt gonna draft Michkov anyway. The player hes gonna pick is probably going to be available at 8 anyway, assuming that Michkoc goes 5, Reinbacher 6 and Benson or Leonard at 7, we get one of the other at 8. I dont see any team other than Washington willing to trade up to 5 to draft Michkov, so imo it makes sense for both teams.

We do get Durzi in exchange, hes worth at least a late 1st and probably more, based only on the Romanov trade last year which imo hes not nearly as good a player as Durzi is. I agree that Colorado's 2nd would probably be a better deal, but ultimately we swap Edmunson for Durzi which is a win short and mid term in my book. We really need a RHD to take off pressure from Barron and Savard.

Also not very realistic to burry Edmunson, not a good look to send a respected veteran in the minors only for cap purposes when hes not actually playing bad.

Depends what the Canucks plans are this off season, but I do agree that Beau would have more value at the TDL, especially if he can put up decent production.

The Habs aren't going to pick Michkov, so there's no point in us trading away one of our top 5 prospects to move up 3 spots when we could probably get the same player at 8.

Or, if we don't get Michkov, we take one of Leonard, Dvorsky, or Moore at 8 and are just fine anyway.

Yeah, I would accept this offer as the Los Angeles GM.

Tough to say, things could change until then if they interview him and like what they hear. Who knows. Maybe we see a NBA type trade where the Habs draft Michkov and trade him to WSH for whoever they get between Benson, Reinbacher and Leonard and a prospect/another pick.
