Team: 2023-24 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 21, 2023
Published: Jun. 21, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Detroit spends money this off-season by hitting the free agent market while keeping its draft picks. Brought back Bertuzzi while adding a first round pick from Boston is insane. Detroit takes Reinbacher at 9, Trades up for Oliver Moore at 14, and also drafts Felix Nilsson and Lenni Hameenaho in the 2nd round. The Wings are ready to compete while upgrading one of the best farm systems in hockey. Salary cap will skyrocket soon so not worried about giving out bigger contracts.

Too much for barb, pass at that price
Prob don't need a 2nd to move up 3 spots
Bertuzzi ship has sailed per Yzerman today
Dumba not in age range per Yzerman today
No to Ned
Don't think they take reinbacher who prob won't be there at 9 anyway

There was no age range mentioned for signing free agents. It was roughly looking at who would be part of the nucleus and if Yzerman is going to trade top picks/prospects it would have to be a youngish (larkin or younger) player that can be a part of the nucleus long-term. Dumba isn't a part of the nucleus long-term, and we aren't giving up assets to get him. It's not like the wings won't sign anyone over 27 this offseason... don't think that would be possible. And what did Yzerman say that you think rules out Bert? Not that I think he's in the cards, just didn't hear anything that would rule him out.

I don't think any free agent he signs will be more then a year or 2 is why dumba is out.

Bert age, contract request and injury history is against him based on everything he said today. That ship has sailed. He said he would fill roster with free agents to fill gaps, not to be here long term.

Don't see him making any significant trades or signings, just filler spots till the prospects are ready. He continues to preach that the improvement has to come within from the younger players. This year Kasper and Edvinsson with prob some small stints from Albert and mazur

Fair. Maybe Dumba at 4 years is too much, can certainly see him signing a veteran free agent or 2 to a few year deal though

would prefer more than a 6th there, if another guy the wings want falls to 14 the penguins could easily start a bidding war between a few teams given their draft capital this year (DET/STL/NSH/CHI/SJ/AZ all have a lot of picks in the first 3 rounds.

Wings moved up from 23 to 15 just a few years ago for the 1st(23), 2nd and a 5th. This is only moving up 3 spots, and all 3 of the 2nds we own are better than the one we traded Dallas in this deal. Honestly, this is a pretty even trade when considering history.

What year was that though?

I mean, they're saying this is the deepest draft in ages, so imo if that's true it should cost more to move up than a prior draft that was average.
