Except Grz isn't even a little gritty. You're saving $2mil and adding 3 inches, almost 20 pounds, 6 years younger and he's a right shot. I would ship Grz out for Durzi all day, everyday.
You aren’t offering Durzi for Grz. You are offering Ullmark for Durzi and a 3rd and I take Ullmark every day of the week including the extra day for leap year to save a little over $3m. That doesn’t even consider the Kings cap position, though if you give away Ullmark they should be able to offset with another trade. My opinion would be different if it was Pinelli or Turcotte instead of a 3rd, which is essentially close to worthless
Durzi is still the undersized defenseman that tries hard even if he’s two to three inches taller. His defensive metrics are inferior to Grz even last year which was probably the worst of Grz statistical profile. I’m fine with Durzi on the roster and feel he is a solid starter at $1.7m, but he’s the type of player you want to replace especially as he starts to make more money. In terms of play, Grz is probably the better player though he isn’t worth $2m incremental over Durzi.
For all the complaints about Grz, you don’t put up his defensive metrics and plus minus combined by being as bad as some people want to think because he’s short.
The idea of a 3rd is enough to offset the difference between Ullmark and Durzi is really a terrible idea. That’s the nicest thing I can say about that deal. Substitute Pinelli or Turcotte for the 3rd and I’d seriously consider it. My perspective is the Kings can make the cap work if they want. A 3rd round pick is essentially worth less than people are suggesting. The % of probable success is much lower than a 2nd.
I’d rather give up a 4th if it meant getting a better prospect than take a 3rd as an offset. Can make that up when they trade Grz because they won’t have two undersized defenseman on the team
