Unless they can find someone willing to give a 1st rounder in the top 15 of this years draft, this would be a solid option. IMO.

Although my gut tells me Dallas management wouldn't move Marchment, a year after signing him to a long term deal. Not too mention that you got to think every Canadian team is likely on his NTC list. Just from a money perspective he's going for Dallas low tax to Ontario heavy taxation on his first major contract of his career. Not wise from a monetary POV for a player that recently signed on a specific team for a reason.

Marchment's M-NTC is the big concern for me here. I'd imagine it's pretty common to see all Canadian teams on a player's No-Trade List, like you stated. The Stars could probably still make the cap work with a guy like Faksa, who only has the 5-team NTC, in the deal instead. Obviously it's still possible that Ottawa is on the list, at which point I think a trade for DeBrincat is likely dead in the water for Dallas. Also curious about how Ottawa would value the deal with Faksa in place of Marchment.

Its always just speculation so who knows. He may waive for Canadian teams strictly from a willing to play in Canada POV but from what Im seen with NHL players mindsets, money has no borders and he simply loses too much of it to taxes to be willing to accept the move to Ottawa IMHO. Considering its his big paycheque this contract and may never get another bog one after it again. Can't say I would blame for thinking that.

As for Faksa being involved, that clearly cuts the value down as I think we can all agree there is a substantial drop off in value between Marchment and Faksa. If Ott would be ok simply getting additional picks/prospects to offset, than by all means.

Although i honestly think, they can get a better offer from Detroit who should be all in on a top scorer like Debrincat and is rumored to be interested.

Marchment is the only guy that could possibly be moved to Ottawa in exchange for DeBrincat though. They wouldn't be interested in Faksa or Seguin so... unless they retain a few millions on Seguin?

Bourque, Mavrik
Seguin, Tyler (3.0 retained)
2024 1st round pick (DAL)
2024 2nd round pick (DAL)

And Ottawa would add Lassi Thompson or Egor Sokolov (NHL ready players), whatever Dallas needs more

Or is Seguin still considered a big impact player? Or would you guys would like to get rid of his contract?

Faksa , Dellandrea and 23 2nd . Faksa good on faceoffs , good on the PK . Lets face it Pinto is not going to be a #3 center past this year. Either he or Norris move to the wing or Pinto gets dealt for a goalie.
You can add Thomson or Sokolov if it makes it more balanced
