meant to put a note on that one, if ek gets traded this offseason and they dont get a rd in return then this could be a possibility. Should probably be pens 2024 5th rounder instead

The Laughton trade seems good. Fair value if we take on Yamo.

SJ RHD is as follows EK who wants to be traded, Matt Benning who wasn’t good enough on the Oilers to be even a 3rd pairing Dman or Nashville’s 3rd pairing Dman and an absolute tweeter in Nikolai Knyzhov who is jumping back and forth to the AHL and Cody Ceci a RHD who has played 37% against elites for the last 3 years isn’t good enough?

You’re out to lunch dude, he would be SJ best RHD defender against elites immediately on SJ.
That’s how piss poor your defence is.

Benning was solid for us last year and we're extremely happy with his contract. Kynyzhov is LD and the reason he's been up and down is due to injury. Simek Vlasic and Macdonald can all slide over to the right, but its not ideal. None of this actually matters in a discussion about whether or not the Sharks should trade for Ceci though. We shouldn't be trading for anyone who doesn't further the rebuild. Yes Cody Ceci would fit in well in SJ. If you'd like to send him over for free we'd be thankful, but otherwise we'll keep the 7th and use it to draft a player that will be with the organization longer than two years.

We're not going to win anything next year or any time soon. Cody Ceci won't change that before he walks in free agency two years from now and so he isn't worth a 7th (to the Sharks). If he's as amazing as you say I'm sure there will be a line of contenders happy to pay a 7th for him.

Have you actually ever read the statistics of ANY player making the NHL past the 3rd round? Ceci has two years left on his contract, a normal pick takes 3-4 years to mature.
So suck it is for SJ.
How much longer do the veterans of the SJ hang around waiting for these magic beans to appear?

Hopefully not very long, which is why we traded Meier and are right now attempting to trade Karlsson. Vlassic says he doesn't want to be traded and Couture will be tough with his contract and probably doesn't want to go either based on interviews. Hertl will probably still be viable by the time we are competitive again but trading him isn't a bad idea if the return is good.

We are in a rebuild, so yes we will continue to suck until these magic beans start to pay off. Paying for short term players is a losing strategy for teams who are trying to completely rebuild their rosters/systems. It's like buying tickets to a concert you know you're not going to be in town for.

You have no RHD, EK will be gone soon. Nobody in the SJ organization has said “Rebuild”, further to that you have nobody to trade.
My point is SJ fans can piss and moan about a player all day long, the fact is Grier makes that trade Ceci for a late pick) all day long.
