Canucks Offseason Gameplan

Created by: Fanatical
Team: 2023-24 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 22, 2023
Published: Jun. 22, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
1. Trade Garland:
** Target a team that needs offense and has a plethora of defensemen. The preds have an underperforming D-man in Fabbro and a true 3C that the Canucks are looking for. Pretty equal value although the 2nd may be debated with a 3rd being swapped instead. In my mind, the best player in this trade is Garland with close to a wash in salary.

2. Trade Rathbone:
** I think he needs a change of scenery. A bunch of options here but the goal would be to obtain a similar 1st / 2nd-year bottom pairing NHL dman in exchange that could make the team. Between Stanley and Hirose, one of them would effectively be out bottom LD.

3.Use Cap Space to Move Up:
** WAS needs to unload salary and Mantha has been a disaster. This trade allows Was to shed ~6m and be just outside of the top 10 in the draft. Canucks move up 4 spots and take on a bad contract that they can move to the minors or put into the line up. There is some potential that Mantha and Pettey could work well simular to Beau.

4. Sign a LHD but don't overpay:
** Somewhere in the 4m range.

NSH declines. You are undervaluing Fabbro by a considerable margin, and there is no way a team that is already weak at C is going to trade away one of the decent ones that they have, in Sissons, for a winger that NSH has no need of. No interest in Garland or his contract.

Terrible value for NSH. Nothing of interest coming back.
