Dubas magic

Created by: Pensfan303
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 22, 2023
Published: Jun. 22, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
-- Korpisalo proved last season that he had starter potential and is the type of Goaltender Dubas tends to look for. He won't be expensive and paired with a 1B type goaltender, he could be a solid option to replace Jarry.

-- Cam Talbot is a solid veteran goaltender that can come in a be a 1B to Korpisalo. I think Dubas would target him or Antii Raanta for this spot in FA or a Dan Vladar via trade.

-- Kerfoot is the swiss army knife that Sully didn't have last season when Erod left. Kerfoot is a great 200 ft player has good speed and can play center in a pinch.

-- Dubas Sways O'Reilly to come to Pittsburgh, Gives Sully a Elite defensive 3C who can shut down any teams 1st line while being productive on offense at the same time.

Trades
1.
PIT
  1. Garland, Conor
Additional Details:
Garland to me seems like a great fit for Sullivan's system as he's a speedy in your face type winger and he would greatly improve our middle 6 as he or Rust would land on the 3rd line.

He also won't cost the house
as Vancouver most likely still wants to shed a bit of salary even after the OEL buyout.

Now Vancouver doesn't need to trade Garland or Cap dump him as many believe they do, Garland may be slightly overpaid, but he still has worth and teams will be interested in him.
VAN
  1. Joseph, Pierre-Olivier
Additional Details:
With Vancouver's need on defense with arguably 3-4 spots to fill, they turn to a familiar face in POJ who was acquired by JR and co.
2.
PIT
  1. Hanifin, Noah
Additional Details:
Would need to come with an extension

Hanifin is a very good TWD who would improve our defense big time. With the pens defense being kinda Iffy, they look to add a proven top 4 dmen who fits Sullivan's system pretty well in my opinion.

Sullivan was also an advocat to go out and get Chychrun last season, So this season, he gets help in a different form.
CGY
  1. 2023 1st round pick (PIT)
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
basing it off the Provorov deal which was pretty much 22 and a 2nd from CBJ.

Flames get 14 and a 2024 2nd

I really like this, my only gripe is the lineup, I’d like to see Nylander in there. Any reason why Puustinen is on the second line?

I think Hanifin can get a better return for Calgary and quite possibly take on a form of cap dump as long as they get the quality of picks/prospect/and or young player in return

Vancouver would be on that like white on rice as Garland was considered as a Buy out candidate, Poj is a can't miss prospect, and a top 4 in a year or two
That would be close to what Calgary would want for Hanifin, especially in a deep draft - might need a B prospect to chip in, but not far off. (My gut says watch out for Detroit though)

I like his game, It's either him or Nylander, whoever would win the spot in preseason gets it

I feel like Detroit is would be more so to watch for Debrincat than Hanifin with how their defense is right now.
Garland was never a buy out candidate to my knowledge, could be wrong. I know he was a sell low candidate but with the OEL buyout, Vancouver can afford to keep him now and hes still a pretty good player in my eyes.

Detroit is going to be interesting for sure smile
I think Garland is good as well (we call him the angry Elf because of how he plays) as for the Buyout that's from our local TSN guys who gossip, *not the Canucks brass themselves. There a couple links but heres one where they mention it - Thanks for replying it's nice having that kind of reply!

Ya the way Garland plays would fit the pens system perfectly as Sully likes Smaller in your face type fowards. As for the buyout article, It's not something id take too seriously unless mutliple big names report it which is probably why I didn't hear about it haha. I think alot of people over react with Garland since he was still a productive foward at the end of the day.
and ya, it's always nice to have a back and foward with people who coment on teams I build, Helps me improve my futur ACGM teams andhopefully make them more realistic.

Better off just keeping Desmith over Talbot imo. Younger, cheaper, and better. Other than that looks good to me.

Maybe would rather give up a pick instead of POJ, but not a big issue there
