Hawks pass....they have no need for Rathbone. Hawks have for or 5 LHD prospects needing NHL icetime this year with more on the way next year. Hawks plenty of Aiden McDonaugh's of their own too. That leaves us with a late 3rd and a 2nd a couple years off which is not enough. Hawks will want a late first or pair of 2nds to move on from Murphy who otherwise they will be happy to keep to pair with prospects coming up. In other words, they need a compelling reason to move him which this is not.

He's a 30 year old D man that doesnt fit the team window in any way, sure the prospects could be tweaked to suit their needs, but zero chance a team is giving up 2 early seconds plus solid prospects for him

He's their locker room leader. Basically their captain without the C. The hawks would only move him if they got a deal that's worth it. Aka a late 1st or an early 2nd and a prospect. Rathbone is a season away from being an AHLer. McDonough is basically nothing. The 3rd is late and the 2nd is too far away. Take all that out and make it a lottery protected 24' 1st that transfers to 25' unprotected.

He is a middle pair RHD on a good/rational contract....3 years at 4.4 for 30 year old where you should get all prime years before a decline. Yes, he don't fit the rebuild timeline and is expendable. But he won;t be sold off at less than fair value because he wears a letter, can mentor and partner with the numerous LHD prospects we need to develop in the next couple of seasons. Who said 2 EARLY 2nds. much less prospects on top of that. I believe the cost is straight up a late first OR multiple 2nds (in the range of where their value equal a late 1st). I believe the Hawks will be perfectly content having Murphy hang around unless there is a compelling offer (which this is not). In a couple of TDL's, I could see the Hawks retaining to move him to get a return like they got with McCabe.
