1.
PIT
  1. Markström, Jacob
Additional Details:
Huge gamble, but he's only been bad for 1 year, so they count on a bounce back
CGY
  1. 2023 1st round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
CGY clears space
2.
NSH
  1. Diliberatore, Peter [RFA Rights]
  2. Gruden, Jonathan [RFA Rights]
  3. Petry, Jeff
  4. 2024 1st round pick (PIT)
  5. 2024 3rd round pick (VGK)
3.
PIT
  1. Matheson, Michael
Additional Details:
He was really good last year, Penguins make a big upgrade with him instead of Petry and for less
MTL
  1. Légaré, Nathan
  2. Poulin, Samuel
  3. 2025 1st round pick (PIT)
  4. 2025 2nd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
1st rounder is Top 5 protected
4.
PIT
  1. Johansen, Lucas
  2. Oshie, T.J.
  3. 2024 1st round pick (WSH)
  4. 2024 3rd round pick (MIN)
Additional Details:
From a career perspective for Guentzel, it doesn't make sense to resign with UFA one year away. So they flip him and get pieces for the present and future. Oshie still has some juice, Johansen is a flier, the pick will more than likely be pretty high
5.
PIT
  1. 2024 5th round pick (CGY)
CHI
  1. Granlund, Mikael
Additional Details:
Positive investment here for Chicago, as he helps them hit the floor and they can probably get at least a 2nd for him next year with retention

Don't think Markstrom has made any indication of wanting to leave, Vladar is still the more likely player to be dealt of the 2

This isn't going crazy. This is a whole other level. Think Sam Neil in The Mouth of Madness, watching his own life in a movie. Or Sam Neil in Event Horizon.

I looked at this and felt like George C. Scott..

Too many old movie references?

Based on the press conference today, it's unlikely that Dubas trades away one 1st, much less 3. I also think Markstrom would be worth much much less. Like the creativity though.

If you followed the press conference that just happened, these kinds of moves will not take place lol.

I don't think it's about him wanting to leave, Flames need a shake up after a disappointing year, especially by Markstrom. He gets a chance here for a clean slate in Pittsburgh.

He has a full No Move Clause. It's literally 100% his choice

Damn I guess this was all for nothing. Well even if they don't actually go for it, this is what I'd do. They need some kind of change after missing the playoffs and with the core not getting any younger.

IMO we either need to drastically change the roster or rebuild. The first being extremely tough to do. To me it sounds like we're softly starting the rebuild and easing into it.

Yes, and I think he would approve it. Not that he actively wants out. But I think he would go for a fresh start given the choice.

Yeah I would go for Option 1. At least mixing everything up would give Sid + the boys a chance at another run. This way you're looking at a few years of being a bubble team to end Crosby's career. Dubas is gonna Dubas though.

NSH declines. The only thing of note beyond bottom 6/AHL swaps is Duchene for Petry and picks, which NSH isn't doing. We aren't giving up a good winger on a rough contract for a underperforming center on a comparatively worse contract.

Petry is a defenseman. The idea for Nashville here is to get cap space to go after a cheaper Duchene replacement, while getting value for him with picks.

Good luck getting in the playoffs with that roster !

Also, Matheson is staying home at least until the end of his current contract, no doubt.

if it wasn't pittsburgh i think the caps would be all over that, don't see the two teams ever making a significant trade though. too much risk for both sides to look stupid

No chance the pens give up a 1st to take on that contract from Markstrom. There are maybe 10 goalies in the NHL/prospects worth a 1st round pick… and he ain’t it. Especially with the contract

Matheson is at peak value right now. It makes no sense for MTL to keep him as they are still in the early stages of the rebuild.

My bad, for whatever reason I had it in my head that Petry was Carter. But even still, being a defenseman makes it worse in NSH's case. NSH isn't looking for a cheap replacement to Duchene. If anything we are waiting to give Kemell more time before he comes up, and we have Evangalista who will replace him. NSH is already looking to move a defenseman this off-season, and likely Barrie gets moved at the deadline as well. With prospects waiting to come up we font have the space to take him unless we can flip him before the season starts.
