He'll be 38 by the time this expires. WSH may end up regretting this, or not. Risky signing, that may end in buyout if age catches up with Oshie to early.

Woof. 5.75 per will be a steal for Oshie for the next 3 years, but when he's 35-38? Caps will be begging to trade him by the end of this.

Agree, this signing will start off looking good, but WSH will eventually regret it.

You'd think the Orpik example on this team is enough to beware of lengthy contracts. C'mon GMBM. Maybe you're trying to entice people to play for this team with these lengthy contracts, but you come across as idiotic.

Glad for Oshie, not glad for 38 y/o Oshie.

He may be worth 5.75 million a year, but definitely not worth an 8 year deal. Love the player, but I hate the contract he has.

If the Caps can keep this team together, we'll come back to this contract and say why. Term is the price of dropping the AAV. He may be bad by the end of the contract, but this team's window ends in 4 years, max. When they reach that, it's time to rebuild.

Great cap hit in the short term, but the contract is 3 years too long. Pries the window open a bit longer, but this will cost them big down the road.

They might get a few years out of him before this becomes a Dustin Brown or Mike Richards type contract... At least DAvid Clarkson was sent home then eventually traded to cover the tracks of his turd of a contract smile. I like Oshie but think the cap hit/length is too long though Iginla is still playing at 45, Jumbo Joe will probably stick around till then, Jagr must be creeping on 50 years old so who knows smile.

This contract might be a bit long, and very beneficial in the short term, and the Caps will be paying for it in the back half of his contract however it hasn't been noted by anyone yet, that the NHL cap is likely to rise at a bit in the next 8 years. Will 5.75mil for a 38-year-old hockey player be bad, yes, will it be as bad as that looks today? Probably not.
