What if the Sens removed JBD instead?

I have no idea what Ottawa would want. But I know the last thing Pittsburgh needs is an old overpaid depth forward. Already have two with Carter and Granlund. So Dubas would definitely punish Guerin in a deal for Foligno.

Okay but in a dead cap era like this, pretty much every team's going to punish Guerin for unloading a liability. Maybe you can find a stupid GM that actually values his contributions relative to his cap hit, but it will be hard because most of those stupid GMs already don't have cap space to take Foligno.

Foligno is a pretty easy player to move come TDL. It certainly wouldn't be a situation of having to pay to move him.

At the TDL as a rental everyone's value goes up as teams have more cap flexibility in general. Given the rumors about Vancouver not getting any value on any of their players, I would expect the same treatment for Guerin and Sweeney.

What do rumors surrounding VAN have anything to do with Folignos TDL value?

Because it demonstrates the premium teams are placing on cap space. It's a zero sum league. You can't send your players to the KHL. Johansen trade at 50% retained for nothing is another example.

That trade is not an applicable proxy. Foligno at 50% retained as a pending UFA + the boost of accumulated cap at TDL is wildly different scenario. Foligno is also EXACTLY the type of role player that carries an inflated value at TDL.

Agree to disagree and I'll ping you at TDL if he gets dealt, so we can see who was right.

I already stated it is not the TDL and obviously his value would likely be much higher then as cap compliance is far less onerous. Surely you understand team priorities and player values in the offseason are not identical to the TDL many months later?

Correct - makes much more sense for MN to wait until TDL to shop Foligno.
