Yes, because replacing an elite defensive dman with a completely offensive dman is how they would replace Pesce. The only reason they would have any interest in acquiring EK is if they plan to move Burns up as a winger. Besides, that is quite the overpayment for someone who will never have that kind of success again.

I completely agree with this. Waddy reaches out to just about everyone and every trade candidate. He is one to explore every possible option. That's why we end up getting "linked" to so many teams and players. He will kick the tires on everything, just for 1 or 2 moves.
