Confused about Newhook

Description
So I've been looking into Newhook and I have to admit I'm confused. They can't play all these forwards. Here are some ideas that make sense:

1) Sending Slafkovsky to Laval (I hope not, but this was my first thought)
2) Someone is injured that we don't know about
3) We are trading Dvorak
4) We are trading RHP
5) We are trading Anderson

Even if we:

bury Pitlick
bury Wideman
bury/buyout Hoffman
don't sign/trade Ylonen
don't sign/trade Gurianov

We STILL have too many forwards

I have no idea what's cooking, but right now I cannot make sense of this lineup

100% Hughes made the smart play and didnt get into a bidding war for a player that isnt worth what Kings were willing to pay.

I could see a world where Newhook has 50 pts and Dubois has 65 pts next season. Maybe it's my fantasy world, but I like living here!

Im guessing Hughes is targeting Boqvist or Hart, mayby even both

Not Hart. I think Boqvist could be a real thing.

I think it's more about having options in case of injury. I think they are actually more convinced about Dach at center than Suzuki,

Really. Well that's interesting. You can never have too many centers, or guys that can play center, so that may be the play.

I think we'll only know at the end of next season who won this trade. If Newhook puts up 20 goals and 45pts the Habs are laughing.

Kind of question the trade though, basically traded away the ability to add the best goalie in the draft, and possibly a top 10 dman in the draft. Newhook could be interesting also, but that seems like a lot to me.

I like that analysis. I think it's more likely that one of those picks would have been a decent player (last year they got Mesar and Beck around those spots if you adjust for the strength of the draft. They probably were mostly concerned about accelerating things a bit.

The best skaters to come out of the 31st pick are Tiger Williams and Russ Anderson. The goalies have been pretty good but that’s it.

Caufield - Suzuki - Dach
Slafkovsky- Monahan - Anderson
Newhook - Dvorak - Gallagher
RHP - Evans - Ylonen

1 of Hoffman / Armia out the door.

You forgot Pez. Both Armia and Hoffman would have to go for this to make sense (as well as burying Pitlick & Wideman)

With no real futur in net and now dealing out of Hrabal, I could see Hart being a target, MTL has the prospects a picks to do so, But ya, id be more willing to bet on Boqvist if I had to chose between the two haha

You have to love this for Montreal. They paid more for a vastly inferior player than their fans were willing to give up for PLD. They got what they were willing to pay for.

I hope the next trade made is PLD for Newhook. So you can marinate in your irrational hate for the duration of Newhook's contract in Winnipeg.

Do an ACGM. Loud mouth coward.

I think they believe in Monty. They think he's their Hill.

I think you misunderstand Windjammer. Sure he's a little negative (aren't we all some days), but think about all the posts of yours and mine he took the time to read and respond to. He's insightful, and look: he was right! Our offers could not secure Dubois. No shame in admitting it!

Ya i added to my comment, wasn't fast enough haha, I think Boqvist is more possible than Hart as he should cost less, but in this day and age, it's really a 1a, 1b tandems everywhere unless a team has an elite goalie. Hart still makes sense for MTL, but if I had to bet, id put my money on Boqvist over Hart

Hrabal is considered the best goalie prospect. There is still Gajan and Bjarnason who will be available in the 3rd round that are very interesting prospects.

Yup. I'm just pointing out that it is more than fans were willing to give up for a superior player, so it seems a little steep.

Newhook also isn't a 2C, which is why Colorado traded him. He may get there, but he's got a long way to go.

Even if he’s a 2LW it’s still a good deal. And the PLD drama was PLD’a fault. If I’m the Habs I wouldn’t want to send much of anything of value for him and his ego.

i think they got decent return for a player they didnt want to resign. They can either flip those picks for someone specific or draft them and have more assets to deal at the deadline for another push.

They have to flip one of them at least to make it make sense. They have a great team already and those picks are 3 or more years away from doing anything IF they even produce NHL players.

Armia is obviously the buyout candidate. There's 100% more movement happening in the next 24 hours.

Thomas Drance from theathletic has Eddy and Armia at retention for Girard as the Avs are still too tight to be able to keep Toews next year and this will save them over 3M next year.

Quoting: jonh514
Hey, there's no need to troll. I'm sure there's a plan. This is an accelerated rebuild approach and they got a 22 year old 16 OA pick from 2019 who they will be able to sign on a value deal like they did Dach.

They must believe he can be a 50+ pts guy, because they paid a lot for him. People made similar comments about Dach, but after his 1st year in town we're all happy about the move.

I AM confused about what the roster will be... we just have SO MANY forwards.

Thats all he ever does. Says nothing of real substance just false equivalence and has never made an ACGM otherwise he'd be laughed out of the place!

Quoting: Mglgoalie33
Nah, if PLD gets more than $8M and Winnipeg gets Vilardi and Kupari, every Habs fan will be ok with it, laughing at LA. You should be happy for your team now instead of going and dumping on the younger player traded.

You'd think a real fan would be happy but he trolls anyway. Winnipeg must be a fun place!
