Sharangovich resigns for less cap and matches Toffoli's point total next season. 6 years younger, same potential as a 30-30 player, and a pick on top of that? I'll take it.

At the tdl a guy like Tofoli gets a lot more. He's 34th in the league in goals the last 3 years. Tied with Marchand and Tavares and Brady tkachuk, ahead of guys like Gaudreau. He's a good player

No one said he wasn't.
But he is a rental winger who demanded a trade.
That isn't very valuable in the league right now. Welcome to the covid cap era

I like it for both teams.

I think Sharangovich has promise and could do well on a different team.

The response to this trade reminds me of the Granlund for Fiala trade where everyone laughed at the Wild.

I agree. I like Sharangovich. Smart player, good skater, great shot.

I love Yegor, really wanted the Leafs to get him. I also love Toffoli. Good for both sides considering Toffoli's lack of intent on resigning and Sharangovich's upside

this is Tyler Toffoli, I doubt we see him in Jersey after this next season

What an odd take

Yea, I know, But Toffoli is now considered a elite journeyman at this point in time

also Akira Schmid if he breaks out would be paid over Toffoli

Ehh bertuzzi got more than a first as a rental at the tdl. Tofoli has been a lot better and getting for a full year. It's a bad return.

I don't know if you've noticed - but its June 27th - not the deadline.
Cap is a lot harder to move right now because it carries full weight

Isn't that an oxymoron. In the last 3 years Tofoli is 8th in goals and 13th in points for a right winger. He's a first line right winger.

Toffoli coming off 73 point year (half the AAV of PLD) and a year from UFA gets a player that couldn't crack Jersey's playoff lineup and a third

PLD's career high season of 63 points and a year away from UFA (8.5M AAV, double TT contract) he, somehow, gets an early 2nd, a top 6 scoring winger in Villardi, Iafollo and Kupari. All because of an extension that looks like an albatross contract?

Yikes. Conroy and Blake.

That's fine. Instead of a rental and 25% of the season, it's a full year. Gave up nothing that was a part of our future. Gave up less than a lot of rentals last year.

But that's my point. They should get more value if trading now than at the deadline as the acquiring team is getting him for a full year. They'd have been better off holding him and trading him at the tdl if this is the best they can do

Smart move by New Jersey if he is a 1 year rental, and they aren't the team to overpay him based on this past season. Sharangovich probably doesn't get much less than 4M on a 1 year arbitration settlement, and Toffoli is better. On top of that, I doubt the return in a trade for Sharangovich would that extreme.

Unless Calgary are super high on Sharangovich, this seems like a pretty meek return for a 34 goal scorer on a perfect 1 year rental contract. What a weird trade market.

He demanded a trade. They couldn't wait.
And cap is a lot harder to move right now because it carries full weight. Much easier to fit guys at the deadline - particularly since teams are more willing to retain large sums.
None of that applies - and they preferred yegor (who I like fwiw).
The deadline is where overpays happen. Offseason has always been more efficient to acquire players

I'm sorry your notions of value were shattered, but this is about right

Not to mention he was happy in Calgary and said how much he enjoyed it in the exit interviews. This isnt PLD demanding out and he'll never sign in Calgary situation like that one in the Peg!

From what I saw he just said he wouldn't resign, not he demanded. But regardless they didn't have to trade him. He has a contract and should honour it. They can trade him when they get the value they want

if we're basing fairness off of tyler toffoli we should look at the trade that sent him to vancouver as a rental

for tyler toffoli, the kings got:

1. tim schaller (bottom six forward) => curtis lazar
2. tyler madden (college prospect) => seamus casey
3. 2nd round pick
4. conditional 4th two years from now

idk i feel like this is on par with what the flames got...

Hot take: Toffoli is a weird add for New Jersey, imo. It seems like he should go to a team looking to get over the hump into the playoffs and not a playoff team with NJ's depth. I guess at that price they might have thought it was too good to pass up. I also think Yegor will have a great opportunity to step up and is a stud.

Maybe not great "value", but if you're looking at deals lately, cap is at a premium. And it's easy to imagine Sharangovich being worth Toffoli at the deadline if he steps up. He's an NHL player with upside already, not a prospect a couple years away. I think they did alright under the circumstances.

ETA: Also, #80 in a deep draft happening tomorrow is worth a lot more than a third at the deadline. Picks are at their premium prices and players carry a full year of non-prorated cap hit.
