If Killorn doesn't sign (which seems to be likely), then there's no need to trade Colton because you can probably sign him.

I agree. However, after the Newhook trade today, it’s gotta be enticing for us to listen to offers for Colton and see if we can replace some lost draft capital.

I don't think so. Just look at how much JBB spent on Jeannot, if they think Colton is a good fit. I was also told that he said that all the moves that they will be doing is to win now. So, I think they keep him unless they find a way to make him expendable.

That’s a brutal deal for St. Louis. Essentially two firsts for Ross ain’t it

Not really, they both have similar production. Newhook is 22 and was projected to be a top 6 C. Colton is 26 and he's a middle 6 or top 9 FWD.

They are two different types of players, so while Colton might be able to fetch something similar, he's not even superior as of now.

Blues are not trading a first and a recent first round pick for Colton. Plus we really don't have any need for more wingers. Our forwards are set for next year

He's only middle 6 because he's been stuck on the 3rd line so far. Most of his underlying numbers indicate top 6 ability, and he should get that role now. He's a better player than Newhook(I wouldn't say far better), and like with Colorado, Tampa doesn't have to trade him and would only do so if they received a pretty good offer that met what they needed.

Colton does have great underlying numbers that suggest he could be a top 6 guy perhaps or top 9 but he's already established as a middle 6 guy. If he can do more that's great but the expectation of him isn't going to be that. So it's going to be contenders (like TB) who would be paying high price for him. Newhook on the other hand, needs to establish himself as a top 6 player, if he can't then he's going to need to establish himself as a middle 6 or bottom pairing guy, his production would be irrelevant without being able to play defense or kill penalties and the like.

So, even if they both turn out to be in top 6 roles, they are really two different types of players with different expectations, so their perceived value is going to be based off of different factors.

Slim chance that TB trades him for futures in ny opinion unless they know they can turn those futures into something better within the offseason. He's the type of player that they would pay up to get.
