Again, I'll definitely take it, Brad's best move by a country mile so far. Just would rather have locked him down at a number similar to this if that really was an option - suppose the other report could be bs.

I’m indifferent on the Bertuzzi deal. I pray he stays healthy cause this team needs goals. He will hopefully replace the offence left from Bunting but I struggle again to see how this team gets secondary scoring. Hopefully more moves are coming

Compared to Tre's other moves this is a huge win. But I've got an honest question nagging in the back of my mind that I know would set people off lol

I’m thrilled to have Bert but my issue with this team has never been the top six and this might arguably be the best T6 in the core 4 timeline (health dependent)

Bertuzzi -Matthews - Nylander
Knies - Tavares - Marner

But the B6 is still (like it is ever year) a major issue:

Jarnkrok - Kampf - Lafferty
McMann - Holmberg - Reeves

You’ve got multiple black holes on each line. This has to change because I fully expect at least another Reeves “type” for the 4th line.

Leafs have 12 forwards (including Robertson) for $55,527,283.
The have 8 D (including Muzzin) for $27,575,000.
Leafs have 2 Goalies (excluding Samsonov but including Murray) for $5,454,167.
That's 22 players for $88,556,450.
Or $5,056,450 over the cap.
Put Muzzin and Murray on LTIR frees up $10,312,500. (and also reduces roster to 20 players).
So available is $5,256,050.
Spend $4M on Samsonov, and that leaves $1.2M available with 21 roster spots filled.
You could send Robertson and Holmburg to minors to free up $1.6M more - giving you $2.8M available (with 19 roster spots filled).

Where else can they find extra money?

So they definitely could have locked him down long term for a number less than 5.5... Really don't see why you wouldn't do that.

Bertuzzi contract is a great move. Would more term have been ideal? Yes. But I get what they’re doing by not giving him more term, now they have 5 major UFAs in 2024 (Matthews, Nylander, Bertuzzi, Klingberg and Brodie). They can pick and choose which ones they want to keep and which ones can walk. I’m really excited to see Bert with the leafs, I could totally see him hitting 70 points beside Matthews and Marner (Bert>Bunting).

The cap may go up substantially next year, but even if it only goes up 1 mil, it's easy to keep the boys together

Could be getting Domi too, Friedman says they're working on it.

If the leafs actually get both Domi and Bert I don’t want to hear another word about Tre being bad lol.

Never been a fan of Domi, tbh...

He's one of the worst defensive forwards in the league, his reputation as a tough guy is overstated because of his last name, and his offensive numbers are deceiving.

Having said that though, on a cheap deal this could be okay.

The fact that Bertuzzi got a NMC shows that he wants to be here. Theres no doubt in my mind he'll be back next year, barring any injuries of course

Lmao there's that optimism. He signed a one year deal as a UFA and wanted to be on a contender. OF COURSE there's an NMC, there would've been one anywhere that he signed a one year deal. Just protecting himself from ending somewhere he wouldn't have considered signing with.

I will happily bend the knee to Treliving if this all works out. TOR under Dubas has prioritize defensive first forwards/defensemen.

Could not have picked more polar opposite

Will this approach work when it really matters, playoffs. Time will tell, but at least we are getting a new approach. So there’s that

Domi or Maxime Comtois at MUCH less. Which do you prefer?

I was kind of hoping that Nylander was going to Calgary for Dube and Zadorov...

If the cap finally jumps by more than 1m, we are going to have a really nice offseason next year
