He did not perform very well in NJ from what I recall. Still, you're probably right he has to come in above 3.

There is Girard's value to other teams who need and want D, and there is Girard's value to the Avs. Both are high, but I would argue that where things stand now, Girard is pretty valuable to the Avs. He's good, young, and still locked down for a reasonable amount these days. When we don't know yet how confident COL is extending Bo and Toews, then I'd argue for taking Girard out of the trade talk.

Now that I've said that, the Avs will immediately trade Girard lol.

I just mean that he’s projected to get around $5 million this offseason. We all know a team will do that too since this is a weak free agent class and there’s no downward pressure on guys like Graves.

He was pretty solid in NJ - they'd probably like to keep him but he's going to be pricey.

Thing is, as the cap increases, the value of Sammy's contract climbs because it eats up less and less cap percentage. In that sense, he's actually more valuable than Toews. They can put almost any halfway decent guy with Cale and he'll be fine so, in my mind, it's Toews that's redundant at this point. They need to focus all their efforts on locking up Bo; trade Toews to FLA for Duclair and Luostarinen.

he performed extremely well. He should actually get more than Orlov imo. $5 mil minimum.

Reluctantly agree, as much as I would hate to lose Toews. I'm hopeful they can get something done. I'm also entered in the sweepstakes to win the VIP Toews gameday package thing, so I need him to stay an Av on the off chance I win.

I don't think any Avs fan wants to see him leave but he's a luxury they can't afford if they're keeping Byram long-term. Plus, they could get a lot back for him and they still need a lot of help up front if they're going to go far so, IMO, he's the guy they have to sacrifice from the blueline.

Way I see it is. How long can toews play for. He's almost 30 but you don't wanna hand out a fat contract with alot of term. Considering the cap us going up by 4 million, I think they csn eat 2 million of that for toews extension.

But on that note. He also has alot of trade value. They can literally trade him for top 6 winger straight up or for picks and depth players.

Girard on other hand like you said has like 4 years left with 5 cap hit. In my opinion he is expandable as we Have behrens and malinski coming up and can take his spot next year or malinski this year.

It just depends the way the avs wanna go.

Regardless I feel toews will be traded either this offseason or at the deadline if they can't get any extension in place
