Your plan to land an elite goalie fell flat. Winnipeg would ask for at least one quality piece.

If Winnipeg put Hellebuyck on the open market, that offer gets beat handily. Samsonov is a good start, but Jarnkrok is kind of expensive filler, Voit is an interesting-but-not-a-slam-dunk type of prospect, and I don't see a 4th rounder covering $3M in retention.

I think a more realistic Hellebuyck trade would be Helle/$3M retention/WPG 2024 3rd for Samsonov/top 3-5 prospect in TML system/TOR 2024 1st. Toronto gives up the younger, less proven goalie, a decent prospect, and trades a late 1st for a likely early 3rd to get the Vezina goalie with full retention.

Toronto fans won’t like it but with there pool Knies has to be involved
