Description
I'm trying to think a bit outside the box here, so let me explain my thoughts on the signings.

Dubas made one trade to add depth on the LW in Reilly Smith who can easily slot in anywhere in the first three lines. The supposed rumors currently are that he's attempting to move Petry and Granlund. The penguins are also rumored as one of the few teams that Noah Hanifin is willing to waive for and extend with. I'm doing this ACGM with the thought that none of those three things happen.

The avg. age of the bottom six last season was 29.3 when you factor in the clown car of players (Kapanen, McGinn, Blueger, Granlund, Carter, DOC, Poehling, Archibald, Heinen, Bonino). This grouping would lower that age.

Comtois - Ducks aren't going to sign him, will let him go to FA and seems like a solid young bottom six option.

Poehling - I personally think he has a bit more to give, fast skater. His most minutes last year were on the wing with Blueger and Archibald and that 4th line was pretty strong. After that he was mixed in with various parings through the year.

Sprong - i know.. this is a little crazy given the time he spent in pittsburgh didn't produce, but he was also never given a full season. Coming off a strong season, still only 26 and should be on the more cost effective side.

Archibald - injured but when healthy provided grit to the bottom line and was very good defensively.

Drouin - this is a shot in the dark. He's had a lot of ups and downs (more downs than ups) but i think he provides a low risk high reward.

In keeping Granlund which could very much become reality i'm trying to find him wingers that will shoot the puck as granlund's main attribute of his game is supposed to be his distribution which if you look at the 21-22 season in Nashville he centered Forsberg and Duchene. Both had career years, and scored 42 and 43 goals. I understand the penguins don't have a Forsberg and Duchene to go along with Granlund, but i'm trying to find a path to make a similar line should Granlund stay.

I have no idea if Seattle is resigning Sprong. Burakovsky comes back off LTIR and i'm assuming Dunn is in for a big pay day (6-7M AAV) They sent Driedger to the AHL last year and I kind of assume they'll look to move him this offseason.

You know we won’t bench Carter. I wish we would though. I like this but Sprong seems like he will cost something in a trade.

I'm not sure on Carter... Hextall is gone, Dubas doesn't have an alliance to Carter and I think Sullivan is going to put the best players on the ice. Too much BS around the team last year with Hextall and Co. i think Carter rides pine, if he even plays this year. I wouldn't be shocked if he retires.

Like i said, totally unsure what sprong would cost or if they even qualify him.. they may let him walk. If it needs to be a 4th rd or something fine.

They've got to find another LW, and dubas (and sullivan) have noted wanting some younger skaters. I know they hinted the door being open on Zucker still next season, but assuming not, LW options aren't plentiful.

I don't see Bertuzzi, Bunting coming to the penguins, after that you don't really have any top 6 potential LW's in the FA market. Not sure what the trade market would be for other options. Personally and depending on who else the sign/acqurie i could see them having Smith play 3rd line to try and spread the wealth.

Taking a flyer on someone may be the way they go.

Sprong will be a UFA rather than Seattle qualifying him.

was kinda my thought, but figured if the penguins wanted to secure sprong they could trade for him.

RFA rights with arbitration eligible. Might be better kicking the tires on the UFA price. He over performed in a really good situation last year, played better defense then he has before but still needs to work on it. His productivity was more that he made the most of what he was given than it was an everyday thing. RF doesn't like the arbitration process so he's more likely to let players try FA then go through it. If they don't find a home, he'll come back to them.

theres a few good options minus the big names for middle 6 LW, Conor Sheary/ Zucker, bit on the older side, then on the younger side, there is Kerfoot, Donato, Miles Wood, Engvall, Pius Suter, Comtois (more so bottom 6 though) who are all better option than Drouin IMO and then there is always the trade market.

We definitely don't need a Conor Sheary reunion, he did his time and was a good piece.

Zucker, i'd happily have back but only if the price is right.

I like Engvall a lot, and definitely more than Drouin (plus Dubas Connection). Would also take Donato but assume he stays in Seattle. Would also take Kerfoot (again dubas connection) but assume he remains in Toronto.

Suter i'm all set on.

Absolutely no idea whats in the trade market.
