To acquire him they just traded a first, second, and third. So a first and decent but not special prospect and salary matching isn't crazy from that angle considering he played worse last year than prior, raising concerns how much of his previous production was Kane and now having to be resigned (ie less control). Of course last trade was a 7th overall and now it's a 1st two years away.

Personally I think a no protection 2024 first instead of 2025 makes it fair.

laugh That garbage doesn't get you Alex DeBrincat, And good luck he's not taking no 8 x 8 offer in high tax New York State.

And Scott Mayfield isn't signing that joke of an offer either, try more like 4 x $4,000,000 for Mayfield.

Whalstrom isnt a prospect anymore, a first round pick in the 13-17 range is no where near the value of a 7th overall pick. The 2nd and 3rd round picks are worth more than pageau and whalstrom alone

Wahlstrom isn't in the trade it's Dufour. For arguments sake for a moment say Dulfour and pageau are equivalent to a second and third.

I said it should be a 2024 1st. And I'd argue the difference in 2024 unprotected likely middle of the round first and a 7th overall, is equivalent to his loss of value by being unsigned (not having the one 6 mil year) and having a lesser year with ottawa
