FROM SPORTSNET: (I've bolded the likely compensation for Draisatl)
Here’s a handy chart that outlines the draft choice compensation scale:

Average annual value Compensation
Less than $1,205,377 Nothing
$1,205,377-to-$1,826,328 Third-round pick
$1,826,328-to-$3,652,659 Second-round pick
$3,652,659-to-$5,478,986 First and third-round picks
$5,478,986-to-$7,305,316 First, second and third-round picks
$7,305,316-to-$9,131,645 Two firsts, a second and third-round picks
$9,131,645 or greater Four first-round picks

So it would most likely be 4 1st round picks as you probably would have to give 9.5 million at least to get Draisaitl to sign an offersheet and EDM not to match.

Also, if the contract is for 5 or more years you divide the total value by 5 to get the compensation value. It's not just by cap hit. In other words, a 6 year, $42 million contract would carry a compensation value of $8.4 million (2 firsts, a second, and a third) and a cap hit of $7 million.

I'm really hoping this doesn't happen but unless a team is giving Draisaitl $12-14M the Oilers have the space to match it AND give McDavid $14M. The problem would then be re-signing other players and the Oilers would have absolutely no depth.

no team has the big of an a-hole GM. its a real Richard move to sign another GM's RFAs, especially with the intend to handcuff them
