Please dont tell me Treliving plans Kampf to be our 3 c

Created by: BCAPP
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 2, 2023
Published: Jul. 2, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Enough guys who could handle 3c were moved in the last couple days and we've gone for none. I wonder if any trade options left

I like Kampf plenty but he's an offensive black hole. Great defensive c. We need three lines that can score so the other line better be able to

Well it's July 2nd and he's been on the job for at LEAST two months with a record of 0-0-0 so far so ya I think it's clear the roster is set in stone right now....

This may be a new concept if you are new to the game of ice hockey with the National Hockey League. But when a player is UFA they actually have the right to decide where they want to sign. Teams cannot force them to resign as a UFA.
Thanks for coming out

Part of why I hate that contract so much. He's either going to be way overpaid to play 4C or play in a role that exceeds his talent.

I think he does. I like Kampf, but not at 2.4M. I think a flat 2M would have been ok. But then again, with the cap rising it will look better if he improves, even marginally.

All I see when I look at this roster is a giant $4.15M RD that I want to get rid off immediately.

You're absolutely right. I'm making inferences from not that much info. But the fact that the first thing they did was sign someone we have less than zero need for, for way too much term and cap (Reaves) when we have minimal cap room, makes me question his priorities. 3c is clearly a big need (imho the biggest by far) for this team and a lot of options moved the last few weeks. It concerns me I have heard zero to suggest he was in on any of them.

But yes this absolutely could be me overreacting on July 2. I hope that's what it turns out to be

I can live with him being an overpaid 4c. Don't love having overpaid 4th liners but he does an important job well and that's fine. But it requires a certain method of team building if we're going to do that and it appears they don't care.

No I am agreeing with you. Pure idiocy that the Leafs acted as they did.

I can't. The role can be filled adequately for cheaper. From within, no less. Lafferty is a perfectly capable 4C and could take over Kampf's PK duties with ease. Only thing is I wouldn't want Lafferty matching up against other teams top guys, but I wanted them to move away from that with Kampf anyway.

I didn't want to resign him. But I can accept a 500k "mistake". Nickle and diming is an issue. But I'm more concerned with big decisions. Like a 1.35 million and full roster spot mistake

Agreed. Neither should be 3cs in 2023

Me too I suppose. Does Eller have any offense left in him.

None. He's not ever strong at ES defense either. PKs well. Definitely my least favorite Dubas move so far.

Your a pens fan then?

I've found his moves there kind of surprising. Each move seems on the poor end of okay. No terrible moves, no great moves. All seem sort of fine, but not ideal

Not thrilled at all. Can't fully judge it until all the trades are in either. I liked Smith and Ned as good low risk moves. Disliked Eller. Rest are mixed opinions that I don't feel strongly about one way or another. If he gets a good deal in a Hanifin or Karlsson trade the offseason could still be a large success.

Ned I flat out like except you have 3 G's?

Smith in a less cap tight world is a good move. In the right cap world it's okay, but a little on the luxury end. Kind of the epitome of what I was trying to say

Jarry was probably the best free agent g and I think the right move to resign. I just feel given recent starting goalie signings (Markstrom, Campbell, Kuemper, etc), and Jarry coming off a poorer (not bad, just slightly below average, I feel he should have been able to get him more at 5 million flat. So an okay deal again

Honestly I don't really know where Eller is in his career and looked at his box car and figured he was a low end 3c so it was okay but not particularly good
