Revisiting TK if Vladdy fell through

Created by: vikhodush
Team: 2023-24 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 6, 2023
Published: Jul. 6, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just bored waiting for something to happen. If Vladdy deal falls through, I think Canes still need to address and beef up top6/9 way more than getting EK on the back end. I also don't think Canes should be moving Turbo in this type of situation. Skjei makes way more sense to me and assuming you can make rest of cap work than shouldn't moving Turbo, especially with Svech recovering from a serious injury.

Saw a post on TK comps / value earlier today so tried to emulate that but might need to adjust/swap some pieces in and out.

Dillon is a nice piece for the 3rd pair that I've seen moved before but can also look at other options - essentially Skjei is too expensive to play that role imo and I think he's the one that should be moved versus Pesce. Could be to a different team for a couple of picks/prospects but general idea is to save some cap space and leverage it in the F corps while replenishing some of the assets used to get TK.
Trades
1.
CAR
  1. 2024 2nd round pick (BOS)
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (ANA)
Additional Details:
Not sure if Ducks are willing to spend draft capital on Skjei while rebuilding, more so moving him for cap space so could be another team. Felt like a potential fit to insulate some younger players but understand if you don't want to spend assets or block prospects.
2.
PHI
  1. Drury, Jack
  2. Heimosalmi, Aleksi
  3. 2024 1st round pick (CAR)
  4. 2026 1st round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
Saw an PHI ACGM this morning looking at prior comps - figured 2 1sts and two pretty good prospects would be fairly enticing. Could add around the edges or sub some stuff out if necessary.
3.
WPG
  1. 2024 3rd round pick (CAR)

Definitely a solid offer.

Thanks man. Have a feeling my Canes fellow fans will say that's too much and we pass at that price, but I'd rather overpay on here then underpay. If a deal happens we'll see what the value ends up being either way, more so wanted to look at this roster construction.

I think it's a solid offer... I'm just not sold on TK

I go back and forth. I really do think we need one more top 6 piece though. Doesn't seem like Cat, Keller, Schmaltz, Ehlers, Connor, etc. are available. TK is an interesting option, Vladdy could still sign but kind of depressing how it's played out recently. Not sure who else is out there via trade or FA that fits the bill.

Yeah no, Skjei doesn’t make sense for us at the cost

Dillon is worth a 2nd to the Jets or they keep him.

Don't see the Ducks spending that kind of draft capital on a guy who's a UFA.

I think the Jets are going to sell so Connor's might be an option

Yeah I figured wasn’t the best spot but struggled to find a team that made a lot of sense. What price would interest you?

It doesn’t really seem like it, not full on at least but maybe a retool. They got win now and future pieces for PLD. They may move some of their pending FAs but doesn’t seem like they’re selling guys with term.

That totally might be the case... Even if he isn't available there is a couple of guys I'd kick the tires on before going after TK

Good call. Didn’t even look at their depth chart.

While I think Danny would fight to have the 2025 1st over 2026, I think it’s a solid offer overall

I purposely did that after having 25 in there at first haha. Gotta negotiate a bit at least!

I listed Keller and Cat. Doesn’t seem like Keller getting moved based on reports and while I thought we’d be in on Cat it seems it’s ANA NYI DET at this point.

Nylander extension wouldn’t happen here so not too interested in a one year thing at what he’d cost. Not interest in JTM with that contract that just kicked in. Will age very poorly.

I can see the Hurricanes getting Vancouver to retain to the point where the contract is manageable
I mean it isn't a done deal with DeBrincat and the hurricanes have enough assets to jump in the race
Nylander's extension would probably be too much for GMDW taste
I can see the Hurricanes putting together a deal that get's Arizona's attention without selling the entire farm

VAN isn’t going to retain for 8 years, just doesn’t make sense.

I’m going off of recent reporting. Obviously things can change with Cat or ARI but based on latest we’re not in on those guys.

Geez that organization is a trainwreck at a nuclear waste site, they can't even bottom out properly and now they want to be a little more competitive... 🙄

Keller and Nylander will cost way more than TK imo. Not a fan of Miller really or his contract and if you trade for ADB you have to hope he rebounds and wants to sign long term. I see TK as the best of everything personally because he is young, cheap, locked in for 2 years, and produces.

Yeah I mean it’s semantics really unless Danny thinks Carolina is going to crash and burn soon lol if not then the pick will be around the same place both years

Im not sayin theyre trying to make the playoffs. Theyre probably trying to get out of the basement and move into 5th or 6th in the division
