Seattle listens to the offer and counters with a 7th to be polite. You're trying to trade a 33 yo to a team that is already deep at that position. It doesn't make sense from Seattle's POV.

Pretty rich to expect a 1st + 2nd for Monahan, especially from Edmonton, the team with the best center depth in the league.

For 1/2 a year at 2.25M (forgot to retain 50%), I believe Hoffman can get a 3rd if he puts up .5 ppg
That’s why I added a 3rd to get the 2nd, but I understand I might be too optimistic, Hoffman most probably won’t have such a season

That’s why I added a 3rd and it’s assuming Monahan scores above .5 ppg, Edmonton needs playoff points from all lines, not just McDavid/Draisaitl/Nuge

He'd be fighting for 3rd/4th line minutes against a lot of players as good or better than him at a lower cost. Doesn't make sense for Seattle to block development and lose cap space.

A healthy Hyman & Kane will provide additional scoring. As will McLeod, Brown and others. They aren't spending all their eggs on a has-been center they don't need.

Monahan is worth a 3rd rounder

From a COL fan who liked Newhook a lot, I wouldn't start him at 2C. If you want him on the 2nd line, put him at wing.
