Agree to disagree. We scored 6 goals vs Panthers (5 games). Plus Pesce (or equivalent) could be signed as FA next year.

It wasn't your offense that was the problem in that series... you guys just got goalied. In the years before that, the problem was always the defense in the playoffs and you guys haven't fixed it

IMO Leafs need to upgrade their back end to be a better team
They got beat by the Habs in 2021 when they only had 4 defenseman
4 big defenseman + Price > the leafs lol

Wooaaa, that turned nasty once I pointed the inconsistency in your argument. I could point out the back to back lottery picks since the ‘ 4 big defenseman + Price‘ but 🤷🏻… maybe slavkovsky isn’t a bust and reinbachrr is Larry Robinson 2.0

Again, agree to disagree. Appreciate the feedback but pretty sure those of us that bleed ‘blue and white’ know where the issues are… we get goalie’d every year , which really means we have trouble generating offense when refs stop calling penalties .
As an aside - even in reg season - they never call penalties against us (we’re always at the bottom of PP opportunities) but in playoffs they just let more go.
Bigger and better D would always help but priority is finding different kinds of guys that can score in playoffs. Bertuzzi seems to be perfect fit, but Willy is a game breaker and pots bigs goals every year in playoffs. No way we trade him for a competent dman, just makes zero sense.

I mean the data does support that but I'm wondering if that's more indicative of problems with the core or with the depth scoring. 17 goals in 50 games in the Playoffs isn't exactly world-breaking... Pesce numbers from the Athletic's models indicate that he's in the top 20% of defenders when you look at GSAV, Offensive Analytics, and Defensive Analytics which isn't exactly just competent. It isn't his fault that with the exception of the 2021 season, he's always had somebody way better in front of him, and Rod really likes the pairing of him and Skjei (and Skjei isn't going to leapfrog Slavin)

You guys don't overvalue him from his play, you are over valuying is trade value

When everyone wants him for essentially nothing, asking for anything good is overvaluing

In this league, we rival fans (and I do it too) often spout the same old tired narratives. Leafs play good team defense, especially last year. Every year in the playoffs we lost because offense dries up at key times; that includes the core who get paid big $. Not saying Pesce is not good but he doesn’t move the needle in anyway imo; and swapping out Nylander for Pesce (pick is of little use right now) is just insane. Weird that anyone thinks it is even remotely reasonable

I agree that your offense dries up... I wondering if it's the core four that don't really produce or if it's the support players that really dry up. I also think that Clayton Keller or Kyle Connor is a much more reasonable guys to kick the tires on considering where those two franchises are

Canes face same issues - can’t score (6 goals in 4 game sweep vs panthers), disappointing playoffs. Not easy to solve but consensus here is that we have too many of the same type of forwards - elite skill, puck retention, tend to play on exterior - core stays, but add into the mix some support players that are more north-south guys. Bertuzzi, Domi, Knies 🤞

I can totally believe that... I think the Hurricanes could use somebody who's very good at getting greasy goals to help with that goal-scoring drought issue.
