23-24 Pens w EK65

Created by: CCM46
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 7, 2023
Published: Jul. 7, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Grier has stated he will NOT be willing to take on 50% retained, however if EK 65 formally requests a trade then maybe 2 firsts an NHL ready young DMan and 2 potential prospects one better than the other may get it done. Not entirely sure on that, but thats the most I'd be willing to give up for EK65. The Petry deal is because Philly wants out of Ellis deal this allows that chance. And honestly any team that will take a second to take on Granlunds contract Id pull the trigger

The only statement I've seen out here is that Grier said that he's unwilling to retain more than 20% on Erik Karlsson, which is still $9.2 million.

My Bad I misread the report I was reading where it said he will NOT retain the max 50%. Ripperino to my reading ability.

I once made a trade that would have resulted in Mrs. Karlsson being re-introduced to Mrs. Hoffman, so don't feel bad.

Still if EK requests to be traded and then Grier's hands are somewhat tied maybe could revisit this

Where are you guys getting any of your reporting from? Friedman, the only credible one when it comes to this topic, has said originally Grier didn't want to retain more than 20%. However recent discussions have had it potentially up to 40%. Karlsson hasn't formally requested a trade, however he has said he does not want to go through a rebuild so requesting a trade is probably inevitable in the near future given the state of SJ. Which is another reason Grier probably wants to move him now before he has another underwhelming injury year and they get completely stuck with that contract and zero futures to help the rebuild. Personally I hope he stays in San Jose because they're going to be a black hole for at least the next 4 years. Then SJ gets stuck in rebuild infinity where Grier gets fired for inaction.

I misread the initial report. I read it as he would be willing to........ in reality it said he would not be willing to. Missed a word, but if he would formally request a trade it may tie the hands to where something like this could be revisited

Unless he's open to waving his no movement clause, they are probably not going to get good return value on him. Maybe if he has another really good season this year and they try to trade him again I could see the trade value being higher. But right now, teams do not view him as a huge asset.

No, but I do agree with Borque if something like this is proposed and accepted am I the happiest about it..... No..... Do I think it increases the shot that Penguins can win...... Yeah it moves the needle more than what our current situation is. However, I would not be at all willing to move Pickering, not thrilled about moving POJ but thats part of acquiring EK same witht the 2 firsts. Though if he can get you a 4th cup for Sid Malkin Tanger then he made it worth it you know.
