You are limited to 3 contracts with retained salary. With Edmundson you'd be at 4.

Seattle is probably the last team that would need Armia and Hoffman as forward depth. They already have 14 NHL-caliber forwards, so trading a second round pick for a pair of superfluous forwards who might not even crack the starting lineup makes no sense for them.

You're not getting a 2nd for a waiver level player.

The idea was that it gave them the choice to play McCann at C by giving Seattle a quality 4th liner, and Hoffman for a cheap PP 2 option playing on the 4th line. The cheap contracts also makes them easier to move incase they want to buy an expensive rental at another position and need to shed a bit of cap.

That's true but in this scenario it makes it easier to possibly sell Matheson at the deadline, at least a little so we can stay over the cap floor.

I don't really see the correlation between trading for two fourth liners and that giving Seattle the option to play McCann at C. The Kraken roster right now is already set up such that he could play center if the team wanted him to, but McCann's probably best suited as a winger in any event. The only scenario where I could see him playing center is an unlikely series of events where Kartye wins a starting job out of camp, Wright needs more time to develop, AND the Kraken aren't convinced by Bellmare as the 4C. In that event the forward lines would be something along the lines of:

    Kartye-Beniers-Eberle
    Schwartz-McCann-Burakovsky
    Tolvanen-Gourde-Bjorkstrand
    Tanev-Wennberg-Yamamoto

There's simply no room in terms of roster or cap space for Seattle to take on Hoffman or Armia. And if the Kraken wanted to make a big swing at the deadline, they could move Driedger or potentially Wennberg or Schultz, depending on who they're bringing in. The Habs might be able to offload those two forwards to some team for some positive value, but Seattle won't be that team, at least not right now.

Another proposal where the Hawks are overpaying for Dvorak, a player they don’t have a need for.

A bit of constructive criticism, just because your team doesn’t want a player any longer, doesn’t mean another team does. If the proposed acquiring team doesn’t need what your are selling, you’re going to have to make an offer they can’t refuse.

For the Hawks to take Dvorak, the Habs would have to package picks with him to peak the Hawks interest. So at a $4.5m cap hit for the next two seasons and $11.5m in $$ actually owed, the Hawks would want at least a 1st round pick and decent prospect/2nd round pick attached to Dvorak. At that point the deal doesn’t make sense for Montreal.

You have to remember Bowman isn't the Hawks GM anymore so they won't be trading for any reclamation projects.

genuinely just wondering if you haven't been keeping up with free agency, because the Sens just signed their goalie already
