Theres is no metric other than points in which Durzi was better than Harris

Honestly, the Gudbranson contract is so bad, it would have to be a 1st minimum and Columbus has to eat Hoffman or Armia

Carter isn't waiving. I'm sure Dubas would happily make that deal though.

Harris is younger and better defensively, he also comes with a third round pick

Would agree with you here. No need for carter to waive to MTL of all places. Just a fun thought

I would argue he WAS worth a 1st but LA needed the cap space the following year.

Look at Sandin & Lundkvist as comparables.

Really? I'd take him in Montreal. His contract is up right as their window opens

This is a very good point. I agree

I think the only difference is that Sandin and Lundkvist (both the same age as Harris) were first round picks and have that notoriety

Hes added 800 mins since and its slightly better now but like marginally better

Columbus declines. Four mill on a team that isn't cap strapped is basically meaningless, and Columbus should not be interested in spending picks just yet. Furthermore, Gudbranson was signed more for his off-ice presence and to be a tough guy, and it's not his fault the team was decimated by injury last season and he was forced into a much more important role and minutes than he ever should have been. If the contract was two mill a year, no one would say a word about him.

This is openly not true, you can sift through hockey reference pretty quick to figure that out (https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/d/durzise01.html) (https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/h/harrijo01.html)

Both of the guys you mentioned were former 1st round picks, that means a lot to GMs when determining value

Even with better defensive numbers, Durzi is right shot which is more valuable and has a longer pedigree of success.

FWIW, I wouldn't trade Harris for anything less than a 1st rounder if I were Montreal, he seems to have done well for you guys so far and I see 0 reason they'd need to move on from him. But I don't see any scenario where a team gives up a 1st for a former 3rd round 5'11 LHD whose main selling point is decent defensive numbers in 1 year of a limited role. Maybe if he takes another big step forward this season a team looking for a low AAV add at the TDL does that, but no way I see a team doing that in the summer

It would cost MTL to move Hoffman's contract. If there is a team that would take him for nothing or even pay for him, it isn't CHI.

Habs need players to play well. Savard is becoming an issue by making it tougher for Guhle. Hoffman ands Dvorak are doing the same for the forwards. No point in ruining development for our players for the sake of being 'tougher' since that itself is a waste to begin with. Toughness doesnt win you anything. Skill does

do you watch the playoffs? skill is almost always stamped out by size, physicality, depth and defence. the rules and the game changes in the playoffs.

also need guys around to protect cole and nick/younger guns

That was the exact reasoning for the Jackets signing him. They just kinda also happened to get Gaudreau the same day after he signed and then "lucked" into Fantilli so the rebuild kinda kicked into overdrive. I don't think they'll be looking to trade him away until the young guys are fully established. Even then, his contract expires just before Jiricek and Fantilli could need new contracts so he's not really stressing their cap situation at all.
