Boston already has a high end 3C making over 5m. They don't need another!

Coyle isn’t a high end 3C.

Palmieri has a 16 team No Trade List anyway, and American born players usually have the 7 Canadian teams on there.

Boston declines.

Counters Debrusk for JGP 50% retained and a 1st.

I didn’t actually say anything about Pageau in my comment, but the main difference between him and Coyle is face offs as well as production in the post season. Of course that hasn’t been the case in the past two years with the isles missing in 2021-2022, and the fact Barzal getting injured killing their entire team’s momentum this past season.

Wrong.

Coyle played at a half a PPG pace last year which is impressive for an 3C until you look at what Foligno did last season in Boston.

I wouldn’t trade a 25 year old for a 30 year old, but this is a ludicrous counter offer.

Coyle also won 53% faceoffs and was one of their best PK guys. Compared to leagues c3s, he’s elite. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Kinda of the point. 👍🏻. Boston has no need for JGP. Not trading Debrusk for him. Not adding to the cap in doing so. Would not trade Debrusk for JGP with 50% retention straight up. Boston might trade Debrusk for the 1st, but it does not help them now as there is nobody to take his spot. If Isles want to clear cap and use JGP to do it…

Is there a trade to be made around Debrusk and JGP? Maybe. But there will be retention and Isles add to it. It won’t be a 1st unless Boston adds as well.

But the OP is of no interest.

I agree it’s a bad match on paper. My opinion that Pageau can play higher in the lineup isn’t widely recognized, but I’d argue he’s closer to Trochek and Gourde then he gets credit for. That’s not me saying he’s better, but those guys historically have better linemates.

I don’t think he has enough offense to play higher. He’s a consummate #3, and a damn good one. But that contract was bad before ink dried. Always great for a player to have a heater right before signing a new deal. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I agree to a point, but I feel like we see guys get bloated contracts cause of their linemates all the time. Is Pageau any worse than a guy like Compher or Copp? Probably not imo.

You actually did by referring to the point coyle isn’t a high end 3C and then you trade pageau to them which would slide into his place as Pegeau is a high end 3C in your eyes. Pageau is only a 3C on the isles and he’s overpayed

-Would rather have Kyle Palmieri (2x$5M, 21-23-44/82 GP over the last 2 seasons) and that pick than Conor Garland (3x$4.95M, 19-32-51/82 GP in the same timeframe.) Garland gets a few extra assists per 82 but I think the extra term and the extra draft capital this deal costs NY is too much.

-Nobody's paying you for those guys. Your best hope is Ross gets sent to Bridgeport and that they can rotate MM & CC through LTIR to keep them both fresh for a playoff run.

-Boston has Charlie Coyle, which makes JGP redundant. I could *maybe* see a deal where they take Palmieri's 2x$5M with Holmstrom & the pick, especially if they want to move on from JDB, but I think even that is an incredibly long shot.
