Description

Leafs give up the best player but significantly improve the D.

All players are UFA except Timmins at the end of the year. With most likely all of them expecting to hit the market. Hanifin’s no trade clause is an 8 team. Doubt he blocks the trade for a one year shot at the cup then he gets to pick his next spot.

I don’t think that’s a huge overpayment at all. Flyers have already turned down a 1st round pick for Laughton. Not to mention 50% retained for this year and 2 more after. That would be a perfect cost controlled contract for the leafs bottom 6. Especially with the cap going up.

With the nylander move above that would make it tough for liljegren to get the minutes he wants/needs in the top 4.
