If Lindholm doesn't stay trading for Nylander makes no sense. Getting Nylander only makes sense if the Flames are going to be competitive and they won't be without a 1st line center.

And if Lindholm doesn't come with a reasonable extension, then the Leafs wouldn't make this trade either. But you're right, CAL needs to make a decision on what they're going to do..........find enough high end players that actually want to play in the city, or get a rebuild going (which might be tough with the Huberdeau and Kadri contracts)

Lindholm will get around 9 million no matter where he winds up.

If that's the case, we might as well give Willie the $9M

Almost certain Calgary would be on Nylander's no trade list however this is a solid return and fair for both sides. Lindholm does have more value than Nylander despite whatever delusional leafs fan may say because he is a centerman. Don't see this trade as likely because the leafs have so many players who can play center and Calgary only really has Kadri but this is the best Nylander related trade I've seen in terms of value and return.

He was born in Calgary so not sure he would have them on his no trade.

He might. William was born in Calgary but his father Michael went to Tampa Bay before William was 3 years old. Willy grew up in the US and Sweden and played hockey in Sweden for 4 years before getting drafted in the NHL. There might be a little nostalgia for the place he was born but he doesn't have any real ties to Calgary.

You realize his Dad played in Calgary and William was born here also….that may not fit your “he won’t waive” idea so well. Agree Lindy has more value as can truly play well in all game situations (PK, PP, last minute, to shutdown, in overtime, with a lead or when behind), and even if a team had 4 defensemen go down in a game, he has the brains and skill to fill in there also.

Why would Toronto want a center? They have two pretty good ones. Is Lindholm going to extend playing 3c?
