MTL future team if they traded down at the draft

Created by: tylersharpe
Team: 2023-24 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 11, 2023
Published: Jul. 11, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Don't get mad at me for this trade because this is what NSH offered at the draft but MTL turned it down. Also no this is not what they're team would be this year, this is what they're team could look like in 5 ish years minus the salaries.

LTIR = players who won't be there anymore

FWIW NSH held the 15th and 24th picks - not the 22nd. It would have been impossible to draft both ASP and Perreault.

I bet it never went through because the players NSH had interest in we’re already taken within the first 4 picks— only see that move happening for a center.

Since it was 24 and not 22, that second first probably ends up being Musty instead of Perreault. With Hutson coming soon don't know if it makes sense to get ASP with 15. I feel like they'd have gone Wood/Moore/Honzek.

Michkov was still on the board, and if getting a center was NSH's #1 priority they still had some options there at #15, instead of Wood (Moore, Stramel, etc). I think NSH just wanted a potential superstar forward - regardless of position.

Agreed. Nashville was targeting one of the centers that were in that top group. Once Smith was off the board, i doubt Nashville held much interest in paying that sort of premium to move up.

Fwiw according to reports Wood is likely going to start at center next season and models his game after Tage Thompson. I believe he was moved to wing for his freshman college year in part due to his age.

Interesting - I didn't know that about Wood. I'm a little less grumpy about the Preds passing on Moore now.

I was the same way but someone pointed it out to me. If wood works out at center then hes got that big body that trotz was looking for as well. Granted i wouldve been happy with moore as well
