Hawks decline. Not enough to take Petry, especially w/ Dickinson going back to Pens.

Your thoughts on a Petry/Murphy swap? What would the sweetener need to be?

I don't see the Hawks trading Murphy this season. If they are committed to playing two or three of their LD prospects as it appears they are, they'll keep Murphy to mentor those young guys.

I actually don't mind this, especially with the retention. Petry could regain some positive value next summer, with the cap going up. I'm not saying I would ABSOLUTELY accept that proposal. But, it could be a lucrative gamble.

Disagree wholeheartedly. Coming off the year he had, and being the only proven NHL center on the Hawks roster, I'd argue Dickinson is worth a 3rd on his own. So Hawks take Petry at $5m for two years basically for free? Sorry, don't see that happening.

Maybe. But, I think if there were legit interest in Dickinson from anyone for a 3rd it would've happened. Between his cap hit, what he provides, and how cap strapped most teams are right now, I don't envision there being that much interest in him. BUT, an increased role next season could definitely have him turning some heads come TDL time.

I like Dickinson a lot, but he is only a 4th line forward (borderline 3rd line) on a contender. I'd certainly like to see what Dickinson can do with a consistently increased role, though. Sometimes it seems like there is a lot more there with him. Overall, though, Petry is probably the more desirable player league-wide, if it weren't for his cap hit/contract, and not just because he is an RHD, although that definitely helps.

Again, I am not saying I would absolutely accept that proposal. But, it isn't awful, if KD feels like gambling on the market for someone like Petry being a lot higher next year.
