Other avs fans might say no, but I think this might be worth it. It would mean moving on from Landeskog regardless of the injury to make it worthwhile.

Toews is certainly a good defenceman but you just don't trade 40 goals and 80+ points unless you are getting a true #1 and Toews is definitely top 4 maybe even a solid #2 but I just know the team would be missing Willy's offence so much more.

While difficult to identify given his playing context, but Toews is exceptional in his role. Obviously he might not be so dominant with a weaker partner as he ages. The trade overall is quite fair though. I would imagine the issue is TOR wants a RD more than a LD.

He isn't in Colorado. Makar is. And before you say he would be the #1 on any other team, it's impossible to say that. People said that about Parayko and that hasn't aged well. Toews is absolutely a great player and I would be thrilled to have him on my team, I thought that was a missed opportunity there by a lot of teams. However, Willy has scored the 22 most goals in the NHL and 23rd most points over the past 3 seasons. That's a massive loss to your offence and it's not something you can replace unless you draft it. I think for TO, I would rather find a cheaper addition they won't create a massive hole elsewhere.

No, I don't think they want to make that big of a change on defence. Rielly is a great player, he gets loads of needless hate and showed in the playoffs how great he can be. I think what they will do is find another perfect partner for him. Schenn did look pretty good next to Rielly, that's the type of player they are going to what to add. That being said Toews with Klingberg could be a really good pair as well. But if you're down 40 goals and likely more elsewhere with the loss of Willy. (I bet you JT sees his point total drop big time without Willy). Stopping a handful more against isn't really going to be a net win. Defence hasn't been half the problem people still make it out to be.

I don't think TO needs a LD like they do a 40 goal game changer. Its definitely a fair trade. I just think I wouldn't do it. I wouldn't ask for more or anything like that, I just think I would keep Nylander because he's just so hard to replace. Its just a personal preference, I am a big fan of Willy

Really, I did not know that. He's awesome, and yeah a total number 1. If he was right handed I think I'd likely flip my opinion quick. I am still not sure I would make the trade but it's in no way meant as a slight to Toews.

This is why a deal like this would NEVER go down. Avs fans are unwilling to part with Toews (but might be priced out after this season) and Leafs fans are unwilling to part with Willy (but might be priced out after this season). Tough situation on all sides.

Avs wouldn't be able to extend Nylander, so there's really no point to this exercise. They have already made their last top 6 winger bet in Drouin, as risky AF as it is. There are other cheaper scoring wingers at the TDL that would fit their needs for cheaper.

Leafs would do it in a second if he were an RD. As another LD, it doesn't make all that much sense, but I suppose McCabe could be shifted to RD. But yeah, avs say no
