I did sorta push it with Veleno. I think he can be removed to make it more fair, or send him to SJS and have us get Sturm for the 3C.

Pickering and Blomqvist? Ooof. Just a little tough to swallow.

Could be Smith or POJ over Pickering.

I know he said he's against buyouts, but I wonder if he still does it with Granlund? That could lessen the cost in the trade. There is ample cap space here to take on the hit this season.

Do they need to? Without including him they gain a little cap in this deal.

I guess you can remove Granlund from this deal and buy him out. That probably allows you to remove the 3rd and switch Pickering to Smith.
I made another ACGM (that I didnt post) where I made these moves, but also sent Veleno to SJS and brought in Sturm. It would leave us with about $400k in cap space.

In mine I only did 20% from Detroit. Oh don't think at that little bit extra is still beneficial for two seconds. Also Veleno is worth more than the 5th I feel I generously added. Also do they need to include Granlund if the cap from Petry basically balances it out?

If we dont include Granlund, wed still probably have to buy him out or get rid of Rutta since we are over the cap before even making this deal.

I don't see you getting Sturm from SJ honestly. I think for multiple reasons it needs to be Pickering over poj or Smith. For pens they need those cheap NHL contracts and for Sharks Pickering I think has more upside and a bit better for their timeline in my opinion being a bit younger. Although I think Smith still has a bunch of potential.

I wonder if the Pens took some other bad money back, but cheaper. Lindblom and Granlund swap in there? That way Sharks aren't eating a ton of bad cap. Or retention on Granlund from the Pens. I'm going to need around with some ideas lol

Quick question, would DET see Rust as an upgrade over Perron?

DET wouldn't want a proven playoff gamer around when it's time to contend ?

They wouldn’t like trading a 35 year old DP with playoff experience, leadership, and 1000 games 300+ goals 400+ assists who had 24-32 on Detroit’s anemic offense with only one year left for…

5 years left of
31 year old smaller forward at a higher cap hit, and performed less (20-26) on a supposed “better team”

Nope, not that. Check other comments if you feel inclined. It’s just not good sense to add Rust’s contract to what is currently in Detroit.

Your argument is that Rust will be a proven “playoff performer when the time is right” (paraphrasing as you said gamer). So by your own logic, Rust would be very helpful to Pitt who is trying to “make a playoff run” before the clock runs out on Crosby and Malkin.

If he is indeed that, but a luxury you can’t afford, he becomes a….casualty, dump? In which case, why would Detroit not save the money, sell Perron for more to a contender (maybe the Pens) at the TDL, and acquire a proven playoff “gamer” in 2-3 years for someone better than 33-34yo Rust?

Not saying it is going to happen, but he is a luxury Dubas may need to give up if he is all in on Karlsson. Just some outside the box thinking with all the Karlsson madness.

Which is fair. Apologies if it seemed like I was being abrasive, I was just responding to you saying “quick response” which I said “no.” I would have normally given a little detail.

I think Pitt will be in the mix. Just like how people thought NJ and Boston wouldn’t do what they did. I just have a feeling that Crosby and Malkin won’t go down quietly (Letang as well).

I just tire of Petry, Granlund, Rust, etc. moved as older veteran pieces (acquired to help runs) to Detroit under the notion that they will help Detroit when they failed to help the Pens, and Detroit isn’t at that stage.

No worries. Of those three you mentioned though, I see Rust being the most beneficial and maybe not only to Detroit.

I recall Steve Y. saying they are not there yet at the draft, but that DeBrincat trade was a big step. Would not shock me if they are a wildcard team this season. Definitely in it 2024-2025.

Had he not signed Compher and Holl, Rust and Petry could have been similar acquisitions. I commented on an earlier deal saying I would have preferred Petry to Holl.

At this point, I very highly doubt any other significant moves are made. Unless some RKO out of nowhere blockbuster materializes, this is the squad and Yzerman hopes that Kasper, Johansson, Tuomisto, Mazur, Soderblom force him to sell off some of the new acquisitions.

Rust to Detroit isn't a fit at all. Contract, age, etc just doesn't make sense whatsoever, even for free. On top of that, Perron is a great fit here and IF we don't make the playoffs and he's moved at the deadline, it will be for futures, not someone with term.
