Initial Creation Date: Jul. 12, 2023

Description
There's a opportunity with the Hawks still they have some money, they have a relationship with the leafs, too many picks to help out dubas anymore with Karlsson and all that also probably prepared to part with a couple picks.. lastly the Hawks are heavy on centerman right now, so?

Leafs now have guys that can play all around the lineup Johnson, Domi, boqvist, jarnkrok

And signing guys that they can keep around like Foote, boqvist maybe Caleb jones

Probably poor value for Toronto. Chicago should be able to easily flip Brodie and Nylander for more at the TDL.

Probably poor value? Should be able to flip? No no no sir.

Extremely poor value for Willy alone and Chicago could flip these guys for 4 times the value they are giving up here. This is just this trolls schtick. Every day he makes a post giving Willy away for nothing.

So you make comments without looking at their roster?

Jones could still be signed by the Hawks I guess he's seeing what else he can get on the market considering the Hawks have no LD as I said I'm sure they have given him an offer

Tinordi and jones signed it still leaves one spot that Brodie could fill

Now if we are talking about a barrel full of non NHL defensemen then sure maybe they have a lot of prospects, I have no idea that there are prospects they plan to slot into the 2 openings and one bench spot we could say

From a rebuilding team that's been publicly stating...we're 99% done with our roster construction. We're open to dialog, but we're content. Yes. I'm open to Brodie as he's 1,000% better than Zaitsev, but we want nothing to do with Nylander's situation. He's just Seth Jones 2.0. HARD pass. Don't pay assets for someone that's just going to want MAX dollars as a UFA next year anyway. If the Hawks want Nylander...just wait until next year to overpay for him.

Try following what Kyle Davidson has said. Vlasic and Phillips are getting big minutes this year plus Roos will get some time up with the big club. They're fine at LD. They might sign a journeyman or see who hits the waiver wire.

What if nylander takes an extension from Chicago?

Brodie can bring a second back at the deadline, I'm not sure he would move at the deadline considering his performance in the 23 playoffs

Caleb Jones was an RFA. the Hawks had his rights. They made the choice to let him go. They've got Vlasic, Phillips that needs NHL ice time with Kaiser and Roos they want to develop too. I actually don't mind Brodie though. He's far better than Zaitsev. It's the price of Nylander that A REBUILDING TEAM can't do. Keep the assets.

Let's pretend you're right and Nylander does sign an extension. Then it's LITERALLY Seth Jones 2.0. And I like Seth Jones, but he wasn't worth that trade. NOT EVEN CLOSE.

With all those comments I appreciate you revealing that I would've never found those comments but I'd still have to say Brodie fits into that, with Seth, jarred that's a nice veteran group to bring guys along too especially on a 1 year deal

Bad fits all around. Chicago is still too deep in the rebuild to be trading picks for a pair of veteran pending UFAs, and this deal actively makes Toronto worse in the 23-24 season - the season that most folks assume they're in full, petal to the metal, "win now" mode.

Trading Nylander right now makes no sense. There are other pieces they can shuffle around to get under the cap, and the best case scenario for a Nylander trade is one where they trade a dollar bill and get 4 quarters back.

Brodie and Nylander don't match the age profile of Chicago. How many times do GMs try to expedite a rebuild by getting quality vets in and then regret it shortly after as the vet ages and becomes a bad contract? I don't understand why GMs can't help themselves.

I'm open to Brodie because he can be flipped and he's 100% better than Zaitsev. Again, I'm truly not trying to tear down an organization, but help others understand what the Hawks have publicly said and how the Hawks MIGHT view a potential trade. It doesn't matter if Nylander is good or not. He's a rental that wants MAX dollars next year. Hawks can't trade away ANY assets for him that they can't guarantee will be less than his TDL value. They not winning the cup next year. Just overpay for him as a UFA.

Oh I don't know I think the trade I made here to get Nylander and sign him will work out a lot better

$21M is available these days that wasn't when Seth came over

Nylander is a tough one. I won't actually disagree with the item in bold above. What other options do they have? Trade him at the TDL to maximize value, but at the same time tell you're current roster that you're not trying to win a cup? Do you want to let him go to UFA where he'll want max dollars and maybe walk for free? I don't have the answer. I guess I would just let him play out his current contract and then see where things land. Paying him $10M+ is worse than letting him walk.

I personally do not. I'd keep all those draft picks and just sign him next year as a UFA...IF the Hawks wanted him.

Brodie only a 1 year deal, Nylander I can understand that though but then again once Perry, Foligno, johnson in 2 years is gone in think Nylander would be a nice 30 year old to have around in a couple years

I think that's splitting hairs just because the Hawks have so many picks already getting him now is probably worth it than maybe signing him later..but I hear you

I think this is totally sensible but I'm super interested in how the Leafs make that all work even right now at this time for the year because they are battling with that cap big time even now and can they make their team better with the Nylander trade is the other legit question even though nobody thinks that makes sense are they the same leaf fans saying trade Marner trade Matthews now lol which is hilarious and now you talk trading Nylander and people are flip flopping as they do.

That's my take on it

Bedard is 18. Stupid risk to take. Nylander might be a complete albatross contract in 5 years when the rest of the CHI lineup in ready to compete.
