Anaheim only does this if Hanafin has an extension already in place. Otherwise, they are not going to risk giving up future assets for a rental. They are not in a position to compete, so high end rentals will not be on their radar.

Verbeek hangs up the second OZ is mentioned

LHD is the last position Anaheim should be spending anything significant on

I would say that is wrong since we already have Fowler as our vet and then guys like Mintyukov Zellweger LaCombe Hinds on the way up — adding more guys just clogs up the best LHD pipeline in the NHL

Why is rebuilding Anaheim giving up futures for a veteran in his prime?

But who is going to play LD this year? Someone's got to be out there when Fowler is on the bench, and I wouldn't be thrilled if it was always Hagg or White. And is it worth hanging onto all of those prospects when it is such a strong group? Hanifin is the guy right now you want your prospects to turn into, and he'll still be a quality player when the Ducks get really good. I'm not stuck on Zellweger having to be the guy coming back to Calgary, but it's nice that he's a local kid.

Because losing all the time sucks and Hanifin will still be a really good player in four or five years.

1. Losing is a required part of a proper rebuild.
2. No guarantee Hanifin won't decline and become a liability when ANA is ascending.

Verbeek has all summer to figure that out and I guarantee you the answer to the question won't cost a top prospect and two 2nd's. It'll be some stand in short term guy that's close to free. I personally would be willing to trade as high as a 3rd rounder for a reasonable guy, but it wouldn't surprise me if even that is too much for GMPV.

Like it or not it's going to be another year of cap dumps (aka Kulikov types) or waiver claims on the Anaheim blue line.

Can I interest you in a Nick Leddy?

With three years of term @ 4M... no. One Gudas contract is enough. I'm not knocking the Gudas signing as he'll add some *much* needed snarl to the team but I'm also not going to double down on questionable contracts.

Who cares? They aren't making the playoffs. Not at all worth it

Sooo bad for ANA. Trade needs to make sense for both teams, not just CGY

Whoever wins the job out of camp. Probably Zellweger and LaCombe.

Fowler-Drysdale
Zellweger-Gudas
LaCombe-Helleson.

I wouldn’t mind Hanifin with an extension for one of of those 3rd pair guys and a 2nd or two. Fowler could then slide to the right in the top pair.

Hanifin-Fowler
Zellweger-Gudas
XX-Drysdale
