In a nutshell for our anglophone friends - Slaf increased his VO2 Max by 20% this summer by working with state of the art tech.

he worked on his reaction time, awareness and explosiveness (instead of the classic "put 20 lbs of muscle in one offseaon" which was the designated plan under the previous admin).

There is one thing we can't take away from the kid - he is a competitor and a proud one at that - last season really hurt his pride, I think, so I expect him to be a mean machine this year.

I expect some susprise at camp - Roy was impressive last camp and might stay. Ylonen will probably be cut and pickup on waiver, same with Pezzeta.

If KH can't trade Hoffman, Pitlick, Wideman and Armia, they will get buried in the AHL. (Taxi squad = buried)

If there’s a team that wants Allen, the payment isn’t a 2nd. Might even be free. Georgiev didn’t fetch a 2nd. Not sure when the last time a G did but I’m sure when you do your research and come back with a name it will be a more prominent name

Oh, I'm not expecting a 2nd - and it will probably be cheap. clicked the pick at random - probably for a prospect playing in the NCAA or Europe.

Like Lafreniere, Slaf should be glued to LW. The league is better when Montreal is competitive so please Montreal stop making stupid mistakes by makkng franchise altering players play on their off wing.

That Slaf will improve?

That some players will surprise the team at camp ( like a Farrel, Roy or Heineman) ?

What part is unrealistic? That MSL is the type of coach to promote a merit based system? that Pitlick, armia, Wideman can't be waived?

I think those are some pretty safe assumptions.

I don’t think you get an asset for Allen after last year, maybe future considerations. He isn’t worth 3.8, especially with the cap not really moving.

Sure, flip Newhook and him.

I don't think it makes that much of a difference. Lots of players play offwing.

Considering that they might have to waiver Primeau.. you are propably right that they will have to make a quick decision.

Personally I wouldn't be worried one bit about losing Primeau. I think he clears, he isn't an NHL goalie yet, he hasn't played very well in MTL. Allen is for sure better than Primeau, maybe he is overpaid but with $11M in cap space it's not an issue. Look at it this way, if you trade Allen and keep Primeau... say Monty gets hurt, then what?

I agree that Allen is better than Primeau. My thought process on it all, though, is that maybe Montreal would want to trade Allen so that (1) they can see (once and for all) whether there is any sort of hint that Primeau has the makings of an NHL goalie when he does play (2) they free up more cap space so that they could take a cap dump from another team for a prospect or a pick (maybe they pick up a good assets for helping facilitate an Erik Karlsson trade) and (3) if Monty gets hurt and Primeau is thrust into a starting role and stinks, then Montreal's draft position for 2024 improves & they can get another high end talent for the rebuild.

With Montreal only being 2 years into the rebuild I would not be terribly concerned this year if Montembeault got injured and their season went downhill, They are not making the playoffs any way (I acknowledge that this view is contradictory to the non-tankers and would not sit well with the players, as they always want to have the best proudct on the ice, but they still need more talent for the ultimate goal of building a Cup contender).

The part I disagree : both trades / someone of Farrell Roy Heineman makes the team / Hoffman being buried

Pitlick & Wideman, sure. I also think they send Primeau down and he clears

But I doubt they send Pezzetta and/or Ylonen down in Laval (through waivers)

I personally think Primeau hits the waiver wire, but time will tell

Yeahhhh butttt are those guys the first overall pick?!? Lol seriously how dumb does it sound to say: Hey you’re the 1OA but we’re gonna get like 10-15th overall value out of you and make you play your off wing…

We'll see - at the end of the day Slaf will have to prove that he deserve it too! If he can't, a stint in Laval can be good for him.

I can respect the logic for the sake of the tank, however let's be honest - if they wanted to trade Allen they would have done so before extending him and regarding Primeau... I think the organization knows what they have with him. They don't need to reserve a spot for him on the roster to find out they see him in camp, practice, and laval on a day to day basis - needing him to play (more) NHL games to evaluate him is truly an armchair GM thought.

Well, he's been great in the AHL... but terrible in the NHL - There is a big gap between the two.
