few small trades

Description
Colorado needs center depth apparently - so Dvorak 50% retained is good value for them.

WSH: I know Mantha is considered a cap dump on this platform, but I don't see a scenario where WSH pays to get rid of him. I tought of doing a ''change of air" kind of trade with Hoffman who might find his scoring touch back playing in a different system. Hoffman doesn't want to be in Montreal and it shows...

As for the lines:

Newhook, Alex - Dach, Kirby- Caufield, Cole

I think this year Dach surpases Suzuki in the depth chart at C and is better complimented with high talent players like Newhook and Caufield, while Suzuki can adapt to a more grittier style of play like we saw at the end of the season. This line-up will somewhat be protected from defensive assignment while still being able to do so.

Dach and Newhook are significally better than Cole at Defense and can pick up the slack - however, I want CC in the Ozone as much as possible with players who are decent puckhandlers and possession drivers.

Harvey-Pinard, Rafaël - Suzuki, Nick - Anderson, Josh

I really like the RHP - Suzuki duo and I like the Anderson- Suzuki duo... however, they don't make a good line once you add Caufield to that line as the latter can't really cycle the puck that well and can't produce the intensive forecheck these three can. Also, this line will see the most usage as it can be deployed in all zone without problem. They will play 18min per night and often score on the rush and in counter attack.

Slafkovsky, Juraj - Monahan, Sean - Mantha, Anthony

This line is about sheltering Slaf with decent talent without putting the same pressure as the first 2 lines. Mantha is a talented big guy who can use his body and Monahan is a skilled experience center... two vets that will be good for Slaf and able to mentor him on the bench. It will often be faced with the 3rd defensive pair as the first two will have their hands full with the Dach and Suzuki line.

They are also big and strong enough to handle the usual 3rd and 4th lines roles players while generally having more skills than them. Depending on Slaf's growth, it could be a sneaky good line and generate a lot of secondary scoring.

Armia, Joel - Evans, Jake - Gallagher, Brendan

This line is there for defensive assignment, and defensive assignment only. To block pucks and to relieve the top 6 when they are tired. Armia, Evans and Gally all play on the PK.

Then why include Mysak and Pitlick?

I feel that Mantha > Hoffman AND Mtl needs rosters spots.

The value on the COL trade isn’t bad, the fit just isnt there. He would slot into the third line with Wood and Colton but the problem is, all three players are left hand and all play the same positions (LW and/or C).

What COL needs a right handed third liner

You replace Hoffman with Mantha, you don't create any roster space
Pitlick will be waived prior to opening night, unless there's 5 injuries

Dvorak isn't even healthy, he isn't starting the season
Why would a team trade for a guy who is coming from a knee injury ?

Doesn't make sense

The difference - Hoffman is not making the opening night line-up... Mantha is. Pitlick takes a roster spot in the AHL.

Dvorak had a recovery period that ended this summer. He will be there.

Hoffman is seen as a veteran PP specialist
In St-Louis book, he is a regular

Dvorak isn't healthy right now ...
