Moving off of Muzzin allows the Leafs to accrew capspace and can potentially add a significant upgrade at 3C or on defence at the deadline.

San Jose isn't getting enough based on them eating 4.5m of Karlsson and taking on Murray.

Add the Toronto 1st (top 10 protected) and maybe a Carolina 3rd going to San Jose and this seems more fair.

If the Sharks retain 4.5m for 4 more yrs (pretty sure Grier said they are only willing to retain 3.2) lots of other teams would beat a late first round pick and 3 rentals. One of which they wouldnt want to resign and the other two probably wouldnt resign in SJ would be a waste of their top trade piece.

Zero reason for AZ to take on Muzzin they already have the IR guys that help with the cap floor and add flexibility. No need to trade a potential 13th forward.

Am a Leaf fan and want EK but Liljegren and Murray and Sharks retain $4.5M is beyond unfair. If we got EK for $7M we don't trade him.
