You trade Manson, not Girard, to make room; keeping the older, less productive, lower-minute player is just not a good idea.

I would guess the Avs let Georgiev walk and find a cheaper option at G.

I can see that I just included him in this roster for fun.

Totally possible though they would need to replace Manson's size and physicality in a free agent signing then. There's a reason they brought in the type of dman he is.

They probably end up trading both Sammy G and Manson imo.

I don't think they'll trade Girard; his contract moving forward will have more and more value. Toews walks, trade Manson, build the rest of the D around Bo, Cale and Sammy.

I think we see Malinski get a regular spot before Gulyayev. You're spot on that those last 3-4 roster spots are going to need to be rookie deals. I think the pie-in-the-sky hope is that Ritchie is at that 2C instead of Sid. At that point in his career, Sid might honestly be better suited to be a 4C (but would still likely cost 3-4 mill).

Maybe, but they may have to if they intend to keep Toews and they should want to. Only guy I can think of as a better foil for Makar would be Slavin. What price a Colorado homecoming in a couple of years?

Sorry but I disagree about Toews - he's going to weigh down the cap structure too much unless he takes a deep discount and he'll be 31 when his new deal kicks in. To me, that money is better spent bolstering the forward group. With Bo, Cale and Sam anchoring the D corps, they can fill in with cheaper, average D and be just fine; Bo and Cale as a pair will be just as good, if not better than Toews and Makar. I completely understand why so many people want to keep Toews but I don't believe it's as necessary as keeping Bo long-term and strengthening the forward group which keeping Toews would get in the way of even as the cap rises.

Have to agree to disagree there. Unless it's breaking the bank, I'm doing all I can to keep Toews if I'm GMCM. Bo is good and SHOULD only get better, but I'm not ready to put all the (so far very fragile) eggs in that basket and whilst Sammy is better than people give him credit for he isn't Toews good. If Byram manages to play a full season this year, I maybe rethink. Otherwise I'm getting Toews locked up ASAP.

It will be interesting to see how this season plays out. I'm betting this is the year that Bo plays 70+ games and shows why he's the guy to keep long-term and that it's okay to let Toews walk.
