Boston goes on one last good run before having to possibly retool.

Hanifin greatly improves the D-core and gives them likely the best defense in the league. He signs the same contract as Lindholm 6.5M x 8 years.

Yes, Boston needs a 2LD, but this does not address their biggest need which is a 1C. Those are some of their biggest trade chips and I don't see them moving them for a D when they likely have their 2LD ready in a year or so in Lohrei.

Top line centres are ridiculously hard to find. Basically, you have to draft one or get lucky to sign one. No one is trading one and honestly Boston doesn't have the assets to acquire one without giving up players they shouldn't be giving up which doesn't get you any further ahead. I look at this move as building from the back end to stay relatively competitive for the foreseeable future. Even if they do struggle for a couple years, they would give them some time to draft players to fill those holes and the core of Pasta, McAvoy, Hanifin, Lindholm and Swayman could be locked up till they are contenders again.

Wouldnt hate this trade by any means, if ur trading for Hanafin, youd think Grz has to be apart of the package as a top 4LD replacement for both teams. My only criticism would be to remove one of those picks, seems like quite the price to pay for an upgrade over Grz (who we know works well w Mac)

Another worry is blocking Lohrei from a top 4 spot in the future. Hed obv replace Forbort next szn on the bottom pair but long term that could be a problem (a good one at that). Either way, I wonder if Lohrei would be a trade piece for Hanafin to give him the opportunity to grow into a top LD elsewhere. PErsonally wouldnt want to move him, but Hanafin is very intriguing and would make Bostons D corps VERY solid for a long time

the 1C situation is tough, ur right in saying theyre extremely difficult to come by, best case scenario is they sign a big fish in FA next offszn as they have the money for it, and they really dont have the trade chips needed to acquire one

I think a lot of teams don't hope their players develop into what they expect them to and wait until they actually do before making a move. For Lohrei, I think he replaces Forbort after next season and then go from there. If he develops into a top 4 LHD then great and make moves accordingly. There is the very real possibility that one of Hanifin or Lindholm have a career ending injury, never hope for that but it is possible. For a team that is trying to win now, they likely rather have the better player in that position instead of giving a player that spot and hoping he grows into like a rebuilding team might do. Also, I don't want to include him in the trade because he is young, cheap and could grow into that top 4 position. Also, for Calgary I was trying to acquire NHL players as to try and ice a still competitive team since ownership doesn't want to rebuild. For the comment on the pick, I think it needs to stay. To say I know what Frederic is valued at is a lie, but considering we just saw Colton go for a second round pick makes me believe his value would be more of a third. Grzelyck I value at around a third as well. You look at every teams' defensive situations and you will see full on the left side with young options pushing for spots. I also don't believe, at least in this scenario, that they have the cap for a top centre next offseason. Also I feel like there are only 4 top centres available and they likely don't hit free agency.

So u disagree with everything I said, sweet lol. It wouldnt be the end of the world if both picks were left in the trade, would still be very happy w Hanafin and if Grz were to be a part of that package.

Its a long shot on the UFA 1C scenario, but I dont really see any other options. Not much in the pipeline (Poitras is 3 years away at best) and limited trading assets will make it tough for BOS to find their 1C

I also dont wanna include Lohrei, he seems to be one of the only studs in the Bruins system

Bruins probably only have interest in Hanifin if he hits free agency I can’t see Sweeney moving valuable assets for him

ultimately the answer is no to this trade. the B's value Freddy more than the league does, we have no draft/prospect capital to deal with and need to keep what little we have.
Forbort gone either this year via trade or contract ending, and we still need to see if there's any positive value out of Zboril.
Hanifin doesn't want to re-sign in Calgary so they have no bargaining power, and we can just either spend money in FA, or if too pricey, re-sign Gryz for a lot cheaper, and on shorter term.
Any sort of move involving that capital would involve Lindholm, or UFA rights to a big fish end of the season.
Even still, dishing out 22.5m for 3 D-men over the next 7yrs, with this weak of a top-6 is a bad idea
