Caps don't have the cap for Brodie. Maybe no team on Brodie's trader list has the cap for him.
The Jets trade might be fair but the Leafs would have to believe that Helly is so much superior to Samsonov to give up one more year of control of Samsonov, their only centre prospect, and bit in the draft.

Even if u could pull those trades off….
Dumba for just over $2mil ?
That sure seems unlikely to me

Would it be worth it for the Leafs to ship out Nylander to make room though?
That would be interesting

Perhaps because according to Friedman, Dreger and LeBrun, Connor Hellebuyck won't extend long term with any Canadian team, So Brad Treliving isn't giving up Samsonov for a one year rental in Helly. Plus Hellebuyck will want at least 7 x $9,500,000 and if Treliving isn't going to give big money to William Nylander. Than he sure as hell isn't going to give a 31 year old Gpalie next season that much money. Talk is that he wants the New Jersey Devils only long term.

Fair points. I’m sure they can figure out a way to make the cap work. They need to do something so they can sign Samsonov regardless.

They get a pretty good goalie who’s only 26 for a few years, move up in the draft and get a pretty good prospect for a guy who is potentially not resigning here.

Ah the sober voice of reality that is windjammer!
Don’t feel like it’s in the ‘not a chance’ category.I like samsonov, solid prospect and move up in the draft. Maybe there’s a tweak to even it out but…

Can we not make Minten out to be something hes not. I rly like him as a prospect, but hes a low B prospect at best. They have plenty of those.

Samsonov is good, he isnt the main piece in a deal like this. And that first is gonna be a late 1st.

I told my boss i wanted a 25k raise. I didn’t get it. And I am Really good at my job! The market has made it pretty clear that he won’t be getting that kind of a deal. It’s posturing by an agent. The only team that gives that to him os WIN.

I'm trying to think of a situation where a big Ufa signing goalie on a new team has worked out well and failing. On that note im struggling to think of a goalie signing for top 5 goalie money over 30 with or without their current team working out well... I really hope the Leafs steer clear. Don't need another Bob/Bryzgalov...

Goalie values are really weird and hard to predict I find. The last two goalies who I can think of who got a first were miller and Schneider

You do realize that the cap is increasing up to $10,000,000 in the next 2 years correct? He can easily get that kind of money on the open market. Plus he'll more than likely come down to 5-6 years @ $8,500,000 per more than likely with New Jersey. He'll more than likely head to free agency next summer. As it looks like Winnipeg is going to hold onto him for the season.

That’s fair, o have to add that having watched Hellebuyck very closely for many years now I would feel very co Disney giving him a 5 or 6 yr deal. He’s a unicorn. Very durable, consistent and driven! He’s very structurally sound and doesn’t rely on athleticism to be successful.

That’s all speculative and guess work just as this proposal is! I do ultimately believe he re signs in Winnipeg!

I’m this scenario I gave the Habs 2nd which is likely in the top 40. Leafs with Hellebuyck could make that 1st mid-high 20’s which is only moving down 10-15 spots.

He's not wasting his time on a team that's absolutely not going anywhere, For the foreseeable future. Pretty sure when all is said and done. He's New Jersey bound.

I certainly can't claim any specific expertise on him. But just in general I'm very leery giving big money to a goalie for term on the wrong side of 30, let alone expending assets to acquire him first. Not saying he hasn't earned it (he has). Just saying I'm not the one who is going to pony up. I'm too hesitant.

I know you're like all other fans and think you can get something for nothing. As if the Jets are going to retain for nothing in return or throw in a 2nd that is a pretty safe bet for top 37.

Laughable, you really need to try and think from the other teams point of view. Why would they do all these favours for Toronto for nothing of substance in return?

There's a reason why every single reply you've had here is telling you how lopsided the deals are in Toronto's favour.

That is a very subjective statement. I believe the Jets will be better this year than last.
