That offer will be easily beaten if Calgary is willing to retain money for 3 years.

How is Calgary going to fit this under their cap , Theyre already over by over 2M i believe with this trade youre adding another 2.8M. I dont want Kessel on this team. he will have to play on the third or fourth line and will be a defensive liability the team needs guys who can PK and block shots.

Actually if you look at why the Leafs have lost the majority of their recent series it has been lack of depth scoring. I think Phil is done so don't want him, but would rather get someone with some offensive pop in the bottom 6

To be honest I dont think it was "lack of depth scoring" as it was different looks, the leafs were a 1 trick pony. You had Matthews and Nylander , those are your two guys you need shut down. if you shut down those guys , you shut down their scoring. so in that aspect your right. but what happened when Reilly started shooting , reilly started actually doing something.. it gave the leafs a different look. That is what I believe Klingberg will add to this team if nothing else a defencman who has a deceptive shot with an offensive touch. If you look at the goals by defense last season I think ALL of the leafs defencmen had like less then 20 goals or something i believe Liljgren was leading the way.... I believe they added a different look.. yes they do need to add some scoring but they have to be able to play defence and block shots an d play PK as well.

Yeah I get your point, but you seem to get mine too. Essentially if opposition could shutdown one of our top two lines and keep the other to 1-2 goals that was all we were getting. We need offense from the bottom 6. They need to be defensively responsible but we need some pop too. Which is what makes the Reaves signing so egregious as he does neither.

I wouldnt categorize Kessel as defensively responsible with some pop.. Probably the opposite lol. I do get your point and I think were saying the same thing. thats why i was so happy we had got Acciari he was the prototypical guy this leafs team needed. a guy who can bang in some goals. play hard physical, get to the nasty areas , etc.
Theres not to many guys like that around anymore. That can score 15+ goals who play that style of game while playng on the third line. and if theyre around theyre commanding stupid money like a Mikheyev. he had a decent season with Vancouver but I still think he was VASTLY overpaid for what he brings. I think a contract in the 3.5 would have been lots for him.

I would love the leafs to go out and get Motte if he would come here on a 1 year legue min contract to build his value for next season... That would be amazing. having a forward group of
Bertuzzi-Matthews-Marner
Domi-Tavares-Nylander
Knies-Kampf-Lafferty
Jarnkrok-Motte-Reeves

That would easily be the deepest forward team the leafs have had in decades.

Motte is a fourth liner and has never scored anywhere near 15 goals

His career high in goals is 9 and points 19. He's also not a centre. I'd have been fine with him, way happier than Reaves. But he's nothing special.

That team is not deeper than when we had Matthews/Tavares/Kadri down the middle. C depth is the most important and Kampf is a fourth liner. But it is good depth.

Motte was a whole nother thought thats why I changed paragraphs. I was speaking of Acciari, Mikheyev guys like that, that are getting overpaid to do stuff like that. when I was speaking about 15 goals plus etc.

I was talking about Motte for the 3rd or 4th line as a cheap veteran option to bring some energy and depth.
If im not mistaken hes a LW that can play centre... atleast thats what NHL site says
