Habs Fan Take On Post Laf Lineup

Created by: jonh514
Team: 2023-24 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 23, 2023
Published: Jul. 23, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Let's say the two groups are really far apart and Laf's welcome with the NYRs is worn out. I think rather than focusing on picks coming back, the team should focus on players that help solve immediate and future problems.
Trades
NYR
  1. Anderson, Josh
  2. Farrell, Sean
  3. Mesar, Filip
Additional Details:
In Anderson you get a middle 6 RW who can add 20-25 goals and play a tougher north-south game, especially in the playoffs
In Mesar you add a future RW with top 6 upside
In Farrell you add a future LW with middle 6 upside

None of these players will be better than Laf baring some sort of miracle, but they will help the Rangers balance their current and future roster with "known commodities".
MTL
  1. Goodrow, Barclay
  2. Lafrenière, Alexis [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Sending Goodrow back means you add Anderson at roughly 1.9M per season

Goodrow is taken back to alleviate the cap hit (it's +1.9M because Goodrow's 3.6M for the same number of years is being sent to the Habs). I am operating on the premise that NYR would prefer Anderson to Goodrow, since they have Centers but do not have RWs.

The premise of the trade was that negotiations between the two parties (Laf & NYR) fall apart is documented right in the description of the post. The fact that you did not take the time to read that, and fully admit that you don't know the value of those prospects but are just commenting on Josh Anderson, has your bias showing!

The fact is you're completely basing the trade on laf falling out which hasn't happened. To say that the trade is based on this concept and to then make an offer that can get easily beaten without taking on such a contract as Anderson is then maybe you're just bias. The fact is if laf is available many teams would call and nyr can get better rw that have higher upside than mesar and a roster player not making as much as goodrow and actually be young. Stop trying to trade Anderson no one wants him and to keep hammering the idea that he's worth what you think is a losing battle.

draft pedigree means outdated information.

Or it means there is a reasonable explanation why he has not lived up to it.

By your logic every player that does not hit the ground running in their D+1 season is a mistake? Many players have a slow progression but hit a higher ceiling. Some players take a.bit longer than others.

Ok. So I get it Howie, you did not read the post and now you are trying to save face by claiming the premise is stupid. Regardless of what you think, it is suspicious that he has not signed yet. In the past this sort of situation has lead to holdouts where players refuse to show up at camp.

The Rangers relegated him to the 3rd line, denied him power play situations, and now they want to lowball him. Some guys don't appreciate that.

But yes, let's make this about how this "could never happen!" and how "Josh Anderson, who scores 20+ goals every year, is terrible...".

Seriously I made what I think is a fair trade offer, and the fact that you are giving me crap for it is beneath you.

Of course not. but talking about draft positon to justify someone is better when there is more recent infromation is just gonna give you an inacurate assessment of their development. Im not saying mesar is a bust or anything, but Roy has done so much right in the past 2 years that makes him our best prospect. he lead his league in point and was on the top line of the WJC for a reason.

How many years has Anderson actually scored 20 goals? Only 2 years and idc about pace you can score at 20 goal pace doesn't make you a 20 goal guy. He's also injured quite regularly now with only 1 82 game season.

Laf can want out sure not unrealistic to say but to then say this offer is the best they get is funny.

Let me say it for the last time: teams don't want Anderson, he is overpaid, injury concerns, hard to fit into the cap for what is likely a bottom 6 player. He's not worth a 1st as much as habs fans will bring it up.

Yes, but in this case I traded him for Goodrow, who is a year older, has the same term on his deal, significantly less scoring, is a left handed center, and is looking like he'll play 4th line minutes in New York next season baring injuries.

Yes Anderson is 1.9M more expensive, but he is more valuable and seeing as how they are both overpaid, you feel it less.

Back to you, but once again: your argument that I am over-valuing Anderson is just wrong.
